West Seattle Crime Watch: Teen attacked in Westwood

(WSB photo)
1:39 PM: Thanks for the tip about the police search in Westwood. Officers were out with a K-9, looking for suspects in an attack that left someone hurt. Very few details so far, according to our check with SPD public affairs – they’re not sure if it was also a robbery, and it’s not clear exactly where the man was assaulted; the Seattle Fire medical response was to 30th/Cloverdale (map). The only description available so far is “five or six males, Hispanic and black, last seen headed southbound on 30th SW.” We’re checking with SFD to see if we can find out whether the victim had to be hospitalized.

4:40 PM UPDATE: SFD tells us that the victim was a 16-year-old boy, treated for “multiple scratches and abrasions over his body, after (saying) he was assaulted and forced to jump into blackberry bushes,” and taken to Highline Hospital in stable condition.

I think I saw some of this taking place…I was out walking. Kept my head down since I was with my baby.
Does anyone know who I should call to give SPD info?

PS 101 – I would suggest calling 911 and telling them you might have witnessed the assault investigated this afternoon in West Seattle and if they can put you in touch with an officer. The case still sounds to be active, and might have included another location, I’m still monitoring.

Probably just some kids out having some fun. There’s definitely no uptick in violence problems at Westwood Village, as certain people here have pointed out several times. It’s just all in our minds because we are timid and scared of change. I’m sure somebody will be along shortly to expand on this.

Westwood neighborhood, not Westwood Village. I should add the reminder that the Westwood-Roxhill-Arbor Heights Community Council meets tonight, 6:15 pm at SW Library, as previewed earlier.

    Yep Stephen,

Usually the ones saying it too are people that don’t even live in the neighborhood, as those of us who do live in this neighborhood know what’s really going on.

I’m tired of these cowardly POS punks who need a group of people to make them feel big. Worthless POS, and doing this kind of crap in my neighborhood too. Like to attend the meeting, unfortunately, I have to go to work tonight during that time.

Pretty resourceful of him to jump into the (rough) bushes though.

  • Eric March 3, 2015 (8:10 pm)

Um, the report says that the kid was forced into the bushes

not making light of this incident BUT sarcasm and mockery has been the subject du jour for me today I totally cracked up at the ” just some kids out having fun” comment. LOL

I wonder if they arrived in Westwood via the Transit Hub of Doom.

The idea of this being a case of “kids having fun” is ridiculous. Even if no criminal intent was behind it, respect for others certainly was missing and these kids are on the wrong track headed for more trouble. The days of “we were just kidding around” are over.

Stephen you really think it’s kids having fun?
I think it is bullying which goes unchecked turns into physical crime
Punks turn into criminals and speaks to the most important job we have is parenting..
I hope Stephen your child is never in a postion to fear for their safety

Stephen, I’m afraid, was being sarcastic. This is why we ask people to think twice about commenting in that way as well as “meta” comments subtly playing off discussions on other stories, particularly ones months or years ago (it happens), but making no sense standalone (ask me about the merlot thread sometime) – the Internet is best read/written straightforwardly, at least when it comes to news. – TR

How horrible! I hope he’s okay. I walk there all the time – at odd hours of the day. I have always been observent but felt safe. There’s the ball park, pool, teen center… it would be a shame if a young guy was being bullied at those facilities.

So, when are the Mayor, City Council, and all of the West Seattle residents who don’t live near Roxhill/Westwood/Westwood Village going to start taking us seriously when we say we have a (fairly new and recent) violence problem in our area? I’m tired of people telling is to ignore the gang, thuggery, theft, vandalism, and drug activity in our own neighborhood.

  • H March 4, 2015 (4:45 pm)

I agree with Bradley. I’ve lived in Westwood for 14 years, it’s always been family friendly with kids playing outside and people walking kiddos, dogs, and w/ each other. The episodes of crime, violence and frankly liquor debris near Westwood Village is all relatively recent. Yes, there’s been past incidents but not resembling anything close to youth on youth or the aggressive crime seen lately.

I know this boy. This was random. I agree with Bradly and H. We have lived here for over 10 years and have never seen it like this.

Sorry, comment time is over.
