West Seattle traffic alert: Delridge/Orchard work intensifies

Update this morning on traffic effects of the Seattle Public Utilities project at Delridge/Orchard – the next two weeks will see some road closures in addition to ongoing lane closures:

Seattle Public Utilities is continuing sewer improvements along SW Orchard Street between Delridge Way SW and Dumar Way SW. Excavation and installation work is underway and will take several months to complete. Work will occur from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday east of the intersection of Delridge Way SW and SW Orchard Street.

The work will require the closure of the westbound lane on SW Orchard Street (east of Delridge Way SW). The lane will remain closed Monday through Sunday, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. through the end of April, and will be opened to traffic after non-work hours. During the closure, all westbound traffic will be diverted to the eastbound lane with the assistance of a traffic flagger.

Starting February 26th, and continuing for two weeks, SW Orchard Street between Delridge Way SW and Dumar Way SW will be fully closed to traffic intermittently for 15 minute intervals during work hours to allow for delivery of materials.

whoah, that sucks. That’s like one out of 2 easy ways in/out of the Puget Ridge neighborhood. I guess there is the more circuitous route that dumps you out by the Boren school. based on what I saw with the only one lane open already (yesterday), it really bungles the traffic.
completely closed for 15 minutes at a time for 2 weeks ? can they at least not do that during rush hours/ school drop off and pick up times? good luck school buses, trying to get to Sanislo. I guess they can go to 16th and take Myrtle.

yikes. Either going to have to leave for work at 6:30 to avoid them or start taking one of the bridges. Yay! So glad they finally told us. I especially don’t understand why they didn’t wait until school was out given that there’s an elementary school right in the middle of all of that. Is that one of the schools that requires significant walking in the area?

Fyi… Cops are ticketing drivers not stopping at the four way stop sign in the Morgan junction next to Thriftway. They just got me for 124

Thanks. More of those these days; we live next to a four-way-stop about a mile south and one recent day (as I noted somewhere) a motorcycle officer hung out for an hour and a half and ticketed nine drivers running the most-frequently-ignored of the four signs. – TR

Glad that’s happening at the 42nd & Morgan intersection.

    .
Whenever I’m waiting for the bus there, I’m actually amazed when a driver comes to a full stop (when not forced to due to other traffic), and especially, when they come to the full stop before their bumper enters the crosswalk. And especially downhill/westbound, in either case.

strangely enough, Rte 128 doesn’t have construction alerts listed? I guess the 15 minute closures will be coordinated with the bus schedule? (lol, j/k).

No the bus will try to let its passengers off when they are allowed to drive through and the flagger will then stop the bus to scream and yell at the bus driver and hold up the on coming traffic and make the waiting traffic wait longer. I was embarrassed for her. Hope they get some better flaggers for all of this.

The 128 stops (in both directions) at Delridge and Orchard were closed as of the past Monday. One bus driver I spoke to said they will be closed for about seven months

Sorry, comment time is over.
