West Seattle Crime Watch: About the police search on Alki

Thanks to everyone who texted/messaged about a big police response on Alki, centered at 62nd SW/Alki SW. We just arrived and have confirmed with police what one neighbor told us – there was a report of a burglary in progress in an apartment/condo. No one in custody so far; no other details yet.

Police have a road block set up at 35th and holly as well for some reason

That was related to the fire call (see separate story). Which was basically a false alarm.

Any update? There must have been 4+ cruisers. Probably more. Not all had sirens or lights going.

No, they don’t usually, when they are on containment (which means they stake out various spots in hopes of “containing” the area where a suspect might still be nearby). The units with flashing lights generally stick to the actual scene (in this case, 62nd/Alki, we’re adding a photo momentarily, got sidetracked to a fire call while en route back) – TR

As weather improves and the beach evolves into a hub for summer activities, let’s hope that SPD rises to the occasion with greater visibility and presence. It’s no surprise to many of us who live in the area year round that summer takes on a whole new character.

Sorry, comment time is over.
