Update: SUV goes off road, behind building at Delridge/Andover, takes out CenturyLink service

2:28 PM: Big police and fire response headed for the north end of Delridge Way on a “heavy rescue” call. Per scanner, a car went over an embankment. No serious injuries reported so most units are being canceled.

(Added: This photo and next two, by Christopher Boffoli for WSB)
2:36 PM: The car involved is a Ford Explorer – it’s actually gone behind the brick business building on the northeast corner of Delridge/Andover.

2:46 PM UPDATE: The vehicle’s driver is going to the hospital via private ambulance. Our crew at the scene has spoken with the building’s owner Christopher Price, who owns the businesses (Allstate and HR Block) based there; he says so far the main damage includes a broken window. Traffic-wise, Delridge isn’t affected much – most of the effects are on Andover east of Delridge.

3:14 PM UPDATE: As discussed in comments, CenturyLink Internet service is out because the driver took out a box at the crash scene:

5:02 PM UPDATE: Thanks to Dan Jaramillo for the photo below, showing two tow trucks working to get the SUV out of the crash spot along that steep section of SW Andover:

Once that’s done, the road should be clear – we won’t be able to check back for a while, so please comment if you do see it back to normal condition.

9:21 PM: As commenters are noting, the CL service is still out.

12:36 AM: WSB’s Christopher Boffoli went back to the scene late tonight and found a crew still working on those repairs:

They had already poured a new footing for the most-uphill box, Christopher reports, but they acknowledged getting everything back will take days, not hours.

Internet is out on Pigeon Point. I wonder if the outage is crash-related?

    • WSB January 13, 2015 (2:54 pm)

Lauri – probably. We heard about some possible power effects too; I haven’t been able to check back on outage map yet.

Update: Co-publisher Patrick Sand’s just back and says the driver indeed “plowed through a CenturyLink box.”

A woman spent the whole day sleeping in that car yesterday on my street. I called the police they came and said they couldnt do much. Officer mentioned she was “out of it” and all their belongings were in the car.

The clink node was taken out when the car hit it. C link is aware of issue. No interweb for a while is my guess.

  • sam-c January 13, 2015 (3:10 pm)

yeah, It almost looked like they took out one of the utility boxes. Glad to hear there were no serious injuries. Good thing no-one was walking along that sidewalk when the driver jumped the curb.

“plowed through a CenturyLink box.”?? Geez, maybe my service will get better. I hope I hope. Can’t get any worse.

Andover is open again, although Centrylink trucks are curently blocking the east bound lane of andover

      Thank you!

I work as a technician at the H & R Block / Allstate building. That crash was one of the louder sounds I’ve heard at that office over the years. We see an accident around Delridge and Andover every year.

Both Allstate and H & R Block are fully operational. No internet or phones down. No data lost. Nothing more than a broken bathroom window. We were actually having clients at H & R Block at around 3:00 today.

Hmmm…..Sunday evening at this exact intersection was that single car accident. I was there for ~15 minutes waiting to be allowed to go down Andover and turn onto 23rd where I live. The police wouldn’t let us go because they said there was an oil spill that one car had already slid a bit in. They had us wait…….then got in their cars and left without doing ANY cleanup, etc. I wonder if that played a role in this car going off the road. It is steep there, and the oil was on the north/northwest corner of the intersection. Hope they are looking into that, at least.

Any word from Century link on an estimated time repairs will be done? Still no phone, no internet. At least my cell and antenna are working.

    • WSB January 13, 2015 (7:03 pm)

They don’t have a structure for getting that kind of info the way, say, Seattle City Light does. But if someone can call them with a cell phone and ask …

  • Lauri January 13, 2015 (8:04 pm)

Grrr. Managed to get through frustrating phone tree to recorded message saying “we are aware of the problem” and they’re working on it. First world problem, I guess. Have a nice night, all, and I hope that poor lady is ok.

  • pigeonpointer January 13, 2015 (8:26 pm)

I guess we won’t have internet for a while… Hope century link can get it resolved quick having to borrow neighbors wifi sucks

I spoke with CL tech support this evening (the 13th) they said by 10pm on the 18th at the latest to restore internet and phone service to my residence (I imagine that all of Pigeon Point will be the same). The tech did not say what the problem was I had to come to the blog for that.

  • flimflam January 13, 2015 (10:11 pm)

wow, so if daniels’ account is accurate, the cops said the woman sleeping in the car was “out of it”….isn’t that tantamount to a DUI? or at the least a further inspection?

    • WSB January 13, 2015 (10:18 pm)

Please note, he is speaking of a different incident/encounter – not what happened today. Might not even be the same driver.

Internet is back but phones are still out as of 7:00AM

  • Subman January 14, 2015 (7:43 am)

    Hi-
I have a managed internet service at my biz across the street from this that apparently uses CLink circuits and I am still out. Is everybody else already up?

  • Me January 14, 2015 (9:07 am)

@ Daniel….It’s sad to hear the driver may have been living in the vehicle. That may have been her home. I hope she’s found a place to get out of this cold weather.

  • Jack January 14, 2015 (9:46 am)

The poor businesses across the street can’t take any type of cards due to the outage. A week of lost business will be hard on them so maybe we can make a point of stopping by for some coffee (bring cash!)?

  • Subman January 14, 2015 (11:09 am)

    Subway is back online :-)

  • JP January 15, 2015 (1:59 pm)

Starting day 3 with no phone or interwebs.

  • PigeonPointer January 16, 2015 (3:40 pm)

Do we have internet yet??? I talked to Century Link the last 2 nights and the latest update is they are waiting on a part. Has anyone heard any other updates?

I feel like Pigeon Point is back in the dark ages. Maybe someone has a free AOL disk from 1995 I can use to get online?

  • Stephanie January 17, 2015 (3:48 pm)

Saturday afternoon and still no phone. Century link has been pretty good. Giving a credit for no phone service.

Sorry, comment time is over.
