From the WSB West Seattle Event Calendar and WS Holiday Guide, highlights for the day/night ahead:

CITY COUNCIL TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE: The meeting that’s under way right now (viewable via Seattle Channel, online or cable) is scheduled to include a review of last June 10’s Highway 99 closure and what was learned from it – see the agenda for document links; that review is scheduled to start around 10:30 am.

TEEN PROGRAM SHOWCASE: 4:30-6:30 pm, the youth at Neighborhood House’s High Point Center are showing off what they’ve been working on this semester; you’re invited to drop in to see! (6400 Sylvan Way)

MVP MALCOLM SMITH AT WEST SEATTLE THRIFTWAY: Seahawks fans, come meet Malcolm Smith, Super Bowl MVP, 6-8 pm! West Seattle Thriftway (WSB sponsor) tells us he’ll be signing posters that’ll be provided at the event. (California/Fauntleroy/Morgan)

WEST SEATTLE TRANSPORTATION COALITION: 6:30 pm at Neighborhood House’s High Point Center, with two major agenda topics – first, what’s the transportation plan for West Seattle in case of emergency that cuts off the regular routes? And second, another chance to offer your thoughts on the proposed rerouting of RapidRide C Line in The Junction, up California between Edmunds and Alaska instead of its westward jog to 44th SW. (6400 Sylvan Way SW)

NIGHTLIFE, NIGHTLIFE, NIGHTLIFE – Tuesday’s a busy night for regular events – see the calendar for venues/listings!

I think the C Line would be do a great favor to Arbor Heights if instead of going first fo Westwood Village, turn south from SW Barton to 35th Ave. SW and drop passengers at SW Roxbury and 35th.

Ugh, please leave the C line alone and don’t move it to that part of California Ave. The location where it is on Alaska is great because that is a pretty quiet street so it doesn’t have much traffic impact. Moving it to California Ave will be a mess. It’ll also clog up the sidewalk there since I assume they’ll have to build a new shelter there too. Redirect the money from these “studies” and personnel to more buses and bus drivers. Stop tinkering and get more buses out there.

Regarding the C, even small efficiencies such as this free up money for other bus needs. A couple of minutes per trip multiplied by dozens of passengers per trip multiied by thousands of trips a year is a significant savings in operation costs. There is no reason to believe that traveling one more block on CA will adversely affect anything at all; it’s already on CA up to that point, so why not eliminate the needless trip around the block, which is an obvious inefficiency? As to the shelter, the new stop won’t be on CA, and shelters don’t cause problems anywhere else in the city, so I guess I don’t understand the objection is. This is a sensible improvement to an important bus line.

Penny wise and pound foolish to move the C like this. That minute or two per trip isn’t worth breaking up transit hub like that. Keep the buses together, especially if this means moving the real time information signs to the new stop where riders of other buses won’t be able to use them.

Thriftway is a mess. The first person in line came in at 7am. There is a line for autographs wrapping through the store.

Metro is all about metro. Unless you’re metro.
