West Seattle Crime Watch: Stolen car found – with mystery items inside

Seattle Police say about three of every four stolen cars turn up somewhere. Today’s West Seattle Crime Watch starts with the latest one.

Eric‘s stolen 1997 Accord was featured here last week, and we got the photos and update from him last night:

I wanted to let you know the King County Sheriff notified me on Saturday he found my car in Skyview. When I went to the impound lot, I found some other victim(s) stolen items in my trunk including opened christmas cards, a lyric/poetry notebook, silver serving platter, a license plate which was not mine and many other items. My belongings were unfortunately missing.

Feel free to share this info if you would like to. Sure wish they would catch these creeps.

Eric had written that his kids’ booster seats were in the car when stolen.

One more Crime Watch note – an early-morning text about car prowls in the 11th/12th/Henderson/Barton area; police were searching shortly after getting the call.

We had someone remove metal plates covering cables at our condo’s utility meters. Has been reported to police and city light. Assume they were looking for copper and didn’t find it. We are right on California.

Yikes. That’s dangerous on many fronts as well as criminal. California in Admiral? Junction? Morgan? Elsewhere? Just so people know what area was hit …

Near Charleston. Police said if they had tried to cut the cables they would have been electrocuted.

This happaned to our apartments in Admiral, 2300 block of Cali. Probably last night – they removed and took the inspection plates off the building but seems nothing else. The lines are Quarter size and run straight from the telephone pole to the apts power panel.

We had our Columbia diaper bag stolen from our car about two weeks ago. It was filled with hand knitted bibs, baby food pouches, diaper, wipes, baby clothes and a few toys.

Eric’s car situation sounds like our experience from a few years ago. Burgundy Accord just like Eric’s, abandoned and then towed by the police to an impound lot. I found a lot of stuff on the floors, which I quickly realized was not mine. Through my own research I was able to return a brand new bathing suit ordered from Land’s End to its rightful owner (I found her via the packing slip), as well as a stack of children’s books that the legitimate owner intended as samples for a grade school book sale (I discovered her through a phone number on the flyer accompanying the books). I never did locate the owners of other belongings. I asked each person “is any of this other stuff yours?” but it wasn’t. My guess is that the thieves had dumped the remnants from somewhere between 3 and 5 different car prowls into my car. Good luck with your repairs, Eric.

the pierce county sheriff spokesman was on the news the other week talking about car thefts. he said on average it takes 5 car thefts to even see a day in prison….it’s likely a very small percentage of people committing about 100% of the car thefts. do away with that small percentage then suddenly this crime gets much less. it’s a joke to the criminals – it’s like okay chances of getting caught are slim and if I am caught I’ll be out in 24 hours as it’s not a crime taken seriously.

    Where exactly is Skyview? Thanks…

On second read, I suspect he meant Skyway.

Eric, I feel for ya. A few years ago my car was stolen from a local repair shop to go unnamed and found 4 months later in the Burien/Sea-Tac area stripped of everything… engine, battery, bumper, hood, tires/wheels, wheel wells, even my leopard skin design umbrella. Impound lot wants over 600 bucks for it. I didn’t have that kind of money at the time (besides the outrageousness of it all…they waited a week before contacting me). I worked out a deal, they kept it. It was a 1996 Saturn with a bad engine…boggled my mind..

Could that be Aiden’s notebook (as reported stolen on December 1)?

  • WSB December 26, 2014 (5:57 pm)

Good question. I’ll mail Eric a link to that story and ask if it resembles what he found … TR

Sorry, comment time is over.
