West Seattle Crime Watch: Search after mini-mart robbery

7:26 PM: Thanks to Chris for the tip – police converged on the 76 station/mini-mart at California/Andover a short time ago because of an armed robbery. We don’t have a description or other details, but the search is on, and we’ll add any other information we’re able to get. No word of any injuries.

8:37 PM UPDATE: Just got a little more information from police. Two people robbed the store; their faces were covered, so the only descriptive information so far is that they were believed to be a male and a female, possibly teens to early 20s. The male robber showed a handgun. Police are pursuing active leads.

Its always sad when this happens but I feel terrible for this establishment. They are a lovely West Seattle who put their heart into owning a business. I hope the children weren’t there when this happened.

Oh no! The nicest couple owns this store and we live around the block. No wonder why my dog was acting a bit crazy. Thanks for the update.

That’s the old Fast Gas hope no one was hurt heard the sirens pretty close to home and horrible people have to get that level of desperation for money.

No no no not them again! The owners are the sweetest people. Hope the perps are caught.

We live across the street and they are so nice. My wife went over to check on them. We see them several times a week. No one was hurt but they are both very shaken up. The kids weren’t there I don’t think. The husband apparently thwarted the robbers and tackled one or both when they threatened his wife!

I dropped by to see how they are. Shaken but unharmed. I didn’t see the kids this evening. Fingers crossed they weren’t in the store.

More people = more crime. West Seattle isn’t the jewel it once was. Scary living here now.

  • brandon December 11, 2014 (7:37 am)

Really?? “Scary living here now”?? Come one. It’s going to happen before WS exploded in population, and its going to continue so long as there are desperate people out there. #drama

Lovely couple that own the store. I once had only a bunch of quarters to purchase something and apologized. The wife quietly smiled and said “but it’s still money!” Hope they catch the bad guys.

That’s awful. Those small business owners are one of the nicest families around and they don’t deserve this! I’m going to stop by today and let them know how valuable they are to this community. They could probably use a little extra support and community caring about now.

  • Chris December 11, 2014 (9:13 am)

Any update on the bad guys? Sounds like the owner thwarted the attempt and maybe they didn’t get any money, is that right? Hope the victims will be okay.

We’re trying to get the written report this morning and also inquiring whether anyone was arrested.

“…its going to continue so long as there are desperate people out there…” Not so sure I am going to agree with this statement if it is meant in anyway to suggest that this is the work of some poor soul just struggling to find a way to live.

  • Deanomatic December 11, 2014 (9:57 am)

Well it could be “scary” if you have lived most of your life in the “old” West Seattle – it is changing fast. I make the comment all the time to folks that in 10-15 years you probably won’t recognize this city and everyday Im more certain of that prediction. It will soon be filled with “shiney happy” wealthy people and a few desperate souls bent on survival at any cost. We could talk about “why” that is happening some other time but rest assured, it is happening.

  • JTB December 11, 2014 (10:00 am)

Indeed the owners are really nice people. I think today is a good time to stop by and offer some sympathy and return one of the many smiles I’ve received there.

  • Brandon December 11, 2014 (11:50 am)

How quickly people forget High Point. I argue its the same or safer.

  • Brandon December 11, 2014 (11:52 am)

Teenagers with a gun= desperate for something.

  • Rick December 11, 2014 (11:54 am)

Has the old “West Seattle” died or is it just me?

  • Mike December 11, 2014 (12:50 pm)

I pulled in to get some gas apparently seconds after it happened. Police converged in the process, not knowing exactly what was going on, I went inside to buy some stuff but police told me to leave. I didn’t see the kids and hope they weren’t there. I for one will not be scared and deterred because then the scum win, and will continue to show my support as a customer. hope you all do the same.

  • ScubaFrog December 11, 2014 (1:42 pm)

The owners are such a nice couple. I’m glad they weren’t harmed. How scary.

I echo JTB’s sentiment (and other posters here) about stopping by and saying hi to them. Let’s offer our support as a community, and tell them that we support them.

I have a board with tacks pinpointing all the crime within a few blocks of my house in West Seattle – add another.

    Running out of tacks.

  • Magpie December 11, 2014 (3:49 pm)

Wow, I caught the bus there shortly before this happened. I go in there all of the time and they are such a lovely couple. This isn’t the first time they have been robbed, but has been a few years. This really sucks. I feel for them. This is a pretty busy place even at 7 am.

Sorry, comment time is over.
