Another “pit” update tonight – this time, for the Murray Combined Sewer Overflow Control Project‘s million-gallon-tank pit across from Lowman Beach. As tank construction begins, King County Wastewater Treatment says the next two major concrete pours – with half the truck volume of the big one earlier this month, but sizable nonetheless – are now postponed until after Christmas. Concrete pours scheduled to begin this week have been postponed. King County contractors have tentatively rescheduled the first pour for the facility’s underground storage tank for Tuesday, December 30. A second pour is planned for early January 2015.

No work is planned for Thursday, December 25. Crews will work on Friday, December 26 and Saturday, December 27 to maintain secant piles and place rebar. Schedule updates will be provided as necessary.

On pour days, about 10 trucks an hour will deliver 2,000 cubic yards of concrete to the site — less than half the amount delivered for the base slab pours in early December. The site will look as it did during those earlier pours. Concrete will be delivered to the site between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Two concrete pump trucks on the east side of the 7000 block of Beach Dr. S.W. will pump concrete into the hole. Crews may continue working in the tank area after 6 p.m. if necessary. Traffic delays and congestion can be expected near the project area on pour days.

What to expect during concrete pours:

• Work hours between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on:

o Tuesday, December 30

o Early January, TBD

• Work will continue past 6 p.m. if necessary to complete each day’s pour

• Crews working on the east side of the 7000 block of Beach Dr. S.W. near Lowman Beach Park

• Trucks parked on the 7000 block of Beach Dr. S.W. and Lincoln Park Way S.W. near Murray Ave. S.W.

• Trucks waiting to deliver concrete will remain running at all times to expedite entry to the site

• Flaggers directing traffic along Beach Dr. S.W. and at the intersection of Beach Dr. S.W. and Lincoln Park Way S.W.

• No parking on pour days in the following locations:

o 7000 block of Beach Dr. S.W.

o Lincoln Park Way S.W. between Murray Ave S.W. and Beach Dr. S.W.

• Local and emergency access maintained on Beach Dr. S.W. and Lincoln Park Way S.W.

• Considerable increase in truck traffic entering and leaving the site during work hours

• Traffic delays, congestion around the site

• East sidewalk of Beach Dr. S.W. closed between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
