West Seattle windstorm aftermath: City Light says ‘most’ back on

5:09 PM: Are you still without power? Seattle City Light says in an update for media around its service area that it’s “restored power to all but 803 customers who lost power during (the) windstorm. The customers who remain without power are likely connected to smaller side lines. These lines involve fewer buildings and are often the hardest to repair. We estimate that crews will restore these connections late tonight or early into Monday morning. If your home is not connected, please call 206-684-3000 so that we can restore power.” At the peak of the outages, more than 52,000 homes/businesses in City Light’s service area were reported without electricity; an exact West Seattle count was pretty much impossible because of how the SCL map displays outages, but, starting with the 120-home outage along Beach Drive reported before 8 pm, we calculated more than 10,000 in WS were among those who lost electricity at one point or another.

7:50 PM: Commenters checking in from Gatewood say they’ve been without power going on 24 hours now. The official map shows multiple spots still out around West Seattle as part of the 600 homes/businesses still out service-area-wide. Most outages are blamed on trees hitting wires.

10:43 PM: Updates from comments – Seola is back, Glenridge/Gatewood still out. It’s not on the map, either. A new outage is – not in our area, and not related to the storm, SCL says – more than 3,000 customers in Tukwila/Boulevard Park.

11:50 PM: Thanks for the continued updates in comments. Glenridge/Gatewood is back on, but now there’s a new outage reported, west of Westwood Village. Not on the map so no idea of the extent, but if you’re affected, be sure to call City Light- outage hotline 206-684-7400 – even if you think someone else has reported it.

Still without power at Glenridge and Gatewood near Othello just off of California. 23 hours and counting.

Thanks for the update. Yes, we are still without power after almost 24 hours. We are on California near Orchard. Several different folks have called in and there still is no estimated time of repair per the automated system. I did reach a live person at one point but she was not at all helpful or optimistic . Are there still City Light crews working in West Seattle tonight ? I am communicating via smartphone. Anyone else without power? Anyone see any crews out still ? Could be much worse I realize . I remember several days without power in 20 degree weather and snow . Fun times.

I saw a crew out working on California ave about an hour ago for what it’s worth. So they are around tonight.

Got power back about 9:30 pm, almost 26 hours after it went out, On Seola just off 106th.

      Thanks for the update!

Sad to say, nothing yet at Glenridge & Gatewood. No power, no crews in sight.

I know why that area isn’t on the map – it’s the old lower-kv lines, we were told once – sorry to hear it’s still out.

… and 2 or 3 minutes later, power is restored. Go figure. Thanks to Seattle City Light. Tough 26 hour for the crews. Hope this is the last of it for them.

All right! The power just came back on in my part of California Ave. Sounds great to hear the refrigerator again! I hope others are getting theirs soon. So strange that immediate neighbors weren’t ‘at all affected. You could see them nonchalantly living their lives with almost every room lit up while we huddled in the dark.

Thanks WSB for being my “Go To” place for information and community. Big help! ~z

Glad to hear you guys are back! Zephyr, that was the first thing I listened for when we came home from the festival today, having heard our power had come back on an hour or so earlier. Our basic GE fridge is 21 years old and has been through many outages. Only appliance we haven’t had to replace at least once since buying the houselet in 1993.

Anyone else still out? Map suggested scattered small outages, but we’ve seen the map doesn’t tell the whole tale … TR

We never really lost power, but have been without Internet all day – still out. Couldn’t get anyone to answer at C-Link. Anyone else? We are at 35th/thistle area.

  • deb October 26, 2014 (11:41 pm)

Power just out now just west of Westwood Village at 1130p.

  • georgie October 27, 2014 (9:02 am)

I still don’t have C-Link internet yet too. Arbor Heights.

Sorry, comment time is over.
