Update: Crash at 26th/Roxbury; man hit by bus, hospitalized

4:47 PM: Police are blocking most if not all of the 26th/Roxbury intersection because of a crash, reported to involve a bus and pedestrian. If you need to travel in that area, find alternatives for now.

5:11 PM: Police just announced over emergency radio that they’ll be reopening Roxbury.

9:26 PM: The pedestrian is a 25-year-old man, according to SFD, who suffered a severe arm injury and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. We don’t have police information about the crash but commenters say a Sound Transit bus hit the man.

Went past at about 5 on Metro 120 and simply based on the response it looked potentially serious. Definitely Sound transit, 560 I believe. Our driver and the bus ahead of us did a great job rerouting by looping west on Roxbury to 35th to Barton, taking Barton back east to avoid the scene. They did it on the fly, stopping for just a minute to confer. Had they waited for dispatch traffic at the scene would have caused a mess all on its own. Thanks driver.

Witnessed this from a couple cars back. Pedestrian walking south in crosswalk on 26th was struck by the bus turning from southbound 26th left onto eastbound roxbury. Pedestrian fell to the ground and narrowly avoided being run over but sustained bone-breaking injuries. :(

Thanks for the updates. By the time we were able to go look – after we heard it was reopening – the intersection was completely clear. That at least tends to mean no life-threatening injuries … best wishes for the pedestrian’s healing.

I was probably a car or two ahead of spooler. I can’t really say what happened. I was sitting at the light, and the next thing I know, I heard the man screaming for help. Thank you to the woman in the purple shirt who rushed over to help him.

The guy was definitely older than 25. I witnessed the accident and held his hand keeping him calm while we waited for the medics to arrive. His bag was run over by the bus, which pulled him into it, struck his left arm, and narrowly missed his legs. His arm was severely injured. Not sure if he sustained other injuries.

Sorry, comment time is over.
