From land-use land: Comment time for West Seattle YMCA expansion, Fire Station 32 rebuild

The official comment period has opened for two major local – but not residential – projects in The Triangle, according to notices in today’s city-issued Land Use Information Bulletin:

(Rendering of the future northwestern corner)
YMCA EXPANSION: As first reported here one month ago, the West Seattle Y (WSB sponsor) plans to expand on its current site at 4515 36th SW. Here’s the land-use-application notice; here’s how to comment – deadline is October 19th.

FIRE STATION 32 REBUILD: The fire station at 4700 38th SW in The Triangle also is expanding, with a total rebuild, and a City Council land-use action is required for permits, as well as other steps outlined in today’s notice. This notice also opens a comment period through October 19th; here’s how to have a say.

Wow. Parking in the Triangle already is a mess as a result of recent, intensive residential developments. And more are underway and projected. Traffic on the area side streets also is getting problematic. What next?

As a long-term Y member, I’m thrilled about the YMCA expansion, particularly with new competition coming up nearby. The facility has increasingly become more worn down and needs an upgrade! This news actually kept me from canceling my membership recently.

What next? Well, you could move out of a growing urban area.

I like the way they show kids riding bikes and crossing the street safely and no traffic. Where is that West Seattle?

One car in the lot, no visible traffic, kid on a bike and 4 peds. I’d guess Anchorage at about 11:PM on a Wednesday night in the summer.

well, at least they got the ‘stare down at your cell phone and approach a crosswalk without being aware of any of your surroundings’ covered.

The drawing is definitely in America somewhere. I see the kid on the bicycle has to walk it up the small hill…wouldn’t want to try riding up.

OMG seriously people?! The drawings are of the buildings. The drawings are not traffic/parking studies. Understand? Even a little bit?

@Peter…..yes we all understand it’s about the building. We’re just having some fun.

Sorry, comment time is over.
