West Seattle Bridge traffic-alert update: Offramp crash cleared

7:05 PM: Thanks to the texter who just called our attention to an emergency callout on the eastbound West Seattle Bridge at the exit to northbound Highway 99 – they say it’s a flipped car. Can’t tell from the cameras in the area at this point, but we’re checking.

7:13 PM UPDATE: Seattle Police just tweeted that it’s a single-car crash and no injuries are reported, but the ramp is blocked.

7:21 PM UPDATE: Police are calling for an SDOT crew to clean up the scene, saying over emergency radio that since it’s upside down, its fluids are running out.

8:46 PM UPDATE: In comments, Morgan Junction Mom says this isn’t clear yet but progress is being made.

8:52 PM UPDATE: And now SPD has tweeted that the ramp is open again.

Friend just texted me as well, he’s out there on his way home. Said there’s an upside down car facing backwards on the 99NB ramp!

I just added SPD’s tweeted info, they say no injuries, at least.

We came down 99 from the 1st Ave bridge and saw the police car blocking the on ramp. What was amazing was how empty the viaduct was without West Seattle traffic. There was a tiny percent of the traffic there usually is for early evening on a Sunday. Maybe Sea Police should notice that for the next time they’re routing traffic after an accident.

Just passed this. Car is righted, pointing in the correct direction, and getting hooked to a tow truck. Cleanup crew is working on the mess.

Thank you, MJM! I was just about to post a comment asking for updates when anyone who passed it recently gets to a point (home/destination) where they can call or text or comment safely/legally. Neither SPD nor SDOT nor the scanner has updated and we can’t even do a drive-by for another half-hour or so.

Sorry, comment time is over.
