West Seattle development: Demolition at 3239 California

Just spotted demolition in progress at the former U-Frame-It/Amante Pizza storefronts (3239 California SW). No, this is NOT related to the mixed-use/apartment buildings planned on both sides of the street a bit to the north. As first reported here in December, live-work units and single-family homes are going in – two of the former, facing California; four of the latter, behind them; six parking spaces on the alley. The developer is Dwell. As also noted previously, the two businesses have moved to other West Seattle locations.

Demolition of a building to build more condensed dwellings since when is that news in west seattle?

Demolitions in commercial/multifamily zones are almost always news, if only because people wonder what’s going in (might have missed previous stories), and development is one of our signature coverage areas. Thanks for asking. – TR

My guess is that NW’s question was meant to be rhetorical, rather than pointed at WSB’s selection of news content. Everyone who has lived in West Seattle for more than a year probably has a gut identification with the question. But we totally appreciate WSB keeping us apprised of what is happening — and the context/background for those happenings.

I just hope it’s a slow news evening so the WSB team can enjoy a glass of wine, a decent dinner, and some escapist entertainment to unwind from the day’s events. Cheers!

What we do not understand is the apartment for rent sign that has been up and still up???

We’ve been wondering the same thing about the apartment next door – it actually made me question the earlier story of the demo and new structure (which is why I appreciate these updates WSB)

Sorry, comment time is over.
