West Seattle Crime Watch: Warrant arrest in Morgan Junction; woman reports being chased on Alki

Two cases in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight – first, a warrant arrest in a very public place:

ARREST AT IN MORGAN JUNCTION: A reader sent that photo, asking if we knew why police “swooped in” on a car by the Morgan Junction McDonald’s and arrested a man who was one of two people inside. We have confirmed it was 43-year-old Bryan Tiedeman, a repeat offender whose case came up briefly at last night’s West Seattle Block Watch Captains Network meeting. Court records show a warrant out for his arrest since last Monday for failing to appear for a hearing that day. It’s the same case reported here last December, involving stolen-car-related charges; court documents said at the time that Tiedeman had been booked into the King County Jail 34 times, for 59 warrants, in 20 years. He also has been charged in another case since then, involving a car stolen in SeaTac and found in May near the house where the police report says Tiedeman lives, near Lincoln Park; after 17 days in jail related to that, court documents show, he was released to the day-reporting program known as CCAP. The warrant sets his bail at $75,075.

ALKI INCIDENT: An Alki-area woman wanted to sound the alarm about an incident that happened to someone she knows late last Thursday night. She says the victim, in her twenties, was walking on Alki Avenue by 61st SW around 11 pm when a man “lunged” at her and “chased her three blocks … yelling obscenities at her and telling her he was going to ‘get her’,” until she found a restaurant open near 59th/Alki and ducked inside for safety. The man is described only as 5-10, early 30s, African-American, shoulder-length black dreadlocks, and the victim thought she had seen him before in the area. She was not harmed but did file a report with police. Side note from the victim’s friend: “She tried to wave down two different cars that passed her in the street and neither car stopped, or even slowed to help.”

That picture is the McDonald’s on California south of Morgan by Thriftway/Shell, not Westwood Village.

    • WSB June 25, 2014 (8:40 pm)

Sorry, PSPS and XXX, upon further consultation of the reader e-mail, you’re right. Fixing.

  • alki resident June 25, 2014 (8:35 pm)

Tiedeman lives directly across from Lincoln Park, always has. He’s probably responsible for all the hundreds of car break ins and missing purses over the years too. This guy has always been a menace to society and continues to get breaks and short term sentences in jail why? Because non of them are violent offenses towards someone so he doesn’t get felonies. Its a joke, a complete joke. I couldn’t imagine being a career criminal and have nothing out of life. WSB-show a pic of him so everyone recognizes him please.

    • WSB June 25, 2014 (8:49 pm)

AR, if he hasn’t served state-prison time, no mugshot is available. I thought I had checked in December but can’t find e-mail proof, so I will be checking again.

  • XXX June 25, 2014 (8:39 pm)

That photo appears to have been taken at the Morgan Junction McDonalds…

  • alki resident June 25, 2014 (8:49 pm)

PS. Put him away for 10 yrs and watch how quickly stolen cars around here decline.

  • steve June 25, 2014 (9:09 pm)

I’d like to see a photo of this “Bryan George Tiedeman” too. Probably the same guy that broke into my car at Lincoln Park. I’m pretty sure which house these crick heads live in. You can hear them fighting and yelling at all hours. I just never know who is who, or, get close enough to get a look at them.

  • waitasec June 25, 2014 (9:15 pm)

    thanks for verifying the “story”.

    criminals hang in Fauntleroy too.

  • Gatewood mom June 25, 2014 (10:08 pm)

Wsb-Check McNeil island he’s done time there. SEA-FAT was after him about 15 or so years ago.
Alki resident, I can name several residences Bryan lived outside of West Seattle. (Besides jail). It’s his mom that lives across from Lincoln that he visits often between crashing at other peoples’ places.
Also- hard to blame him for all car thefts in area when he spends so much time in jail and others are getting arrested too.

    • WSB June 25, 2014 (10:18 pm)

As is usually the case when we report on repeat offenders (and there have been more than a few over the years), no, they are NOT responsible for all crime in their general areas. Police do say repeatedly at public meetings that a handful of people tend to be responsible for much more than “their share” of what’s going on, but unfortunately there are one-offs, there are people from other areas, etc. and so on. Also, please note as this discussion is getting close to a line we don’t cross – WSB does not and will not publish any specific address or other identifying information, in comments or in stories, regarding people or places with whom a suspect might be associated but who are not charged with crimes. That is our longstanding rule; this is not a vigilante site. Hopefully those who are concerned are members of a Block Watch and can share more specific information on their neighborhood e-mail lists or whatever if they feel they need to, or you can look up public records yourself. Even the court documents to which we so often refer are available to all – anyone can register for a King County ECR account; court docs are 15 cents a page. – TR

People! This is the new normal! Get used to it…

  • wb June 25, 2014 (10:31 pm)

“She tried to wave down two different cars that passed her in the street and neither car stopped, or even slowed to help.”

    Classy.

  • huhh June 25, 2014 (10:32 pm)

Dude Is not a car thief, hate to break it to you all

  • alki resident June 25, 2014 (10:43 pm)

Huhh- Dude IS a car thief and a purse thief and a drug addict and a mommas boy. Can I go on? In fact, he was running from the police a few months ago (this year) in Highland Park and the police got him. He was in a stolen car,DOH.
Perhaps you can enlighten us on what he actually does, because he doesn’t work and he can’t stay out of trouble.

    • WSB June 25, 2014 (10:52 pm)

Technically, he is not a convicted car thief, according to the court records I’ve seen thus far, and I do not refer to him as such in the story. The charges this year and last year do relate to stolen cars. The charge from this past May is “possession of a stolen vehicle.” The case from last year, which led to the failure-to-appear warrant on which he was arrested today, includes a charge of Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Permission. The thumbnail of his lengthy criminal history, included in the 2014 charging document, does not include auto theft, which is a charge all its own.
      .
P.S. The person who happened to take a photo of the warrant arrest today has sent a closer-up version which I will be substituting in a bit. – TR

  • alki resident June 25, 2014 (11:16 pm)

WSB- without going into detail, take my word I know a lot about his past and he has stolen numerous cars. Because theres no proof even though he admitted he stole certain cars from certain parts of our area, again not everything was charged. He was also asked once about my stolen truck and responded with “I only steal cars”. Possession of stolen vehicle means he got busted driving a car he stole. Taking a motor vehicle without permission means he stole car. There are tons of other cases in which will never be proved that he is the one who stole but be rest assured he will do it until he dies. Maybe someday he’ll be caught in the act with a happy ending for all of us who have greatly SUFFERED by having our one and only vehicle stolen. Our privacy stolen and our trust stolen. For me,it kinda sucks not having a car. But,I keep on working to save for one again someday. My kids will have to deal with not being able to go anywhere far for vacation this year.

  • Jason June 26, 2014 (12:23 am)

@DTK this is one degenerate, not sure he qualifies as the new normal. There are probably another 30ish thousand other people in this town that don’t have anywhere close to that many warrants or arrests.. I mean I try to keep mine under 5 each at any given time.

  • transplantella June 26, 2014 (12:48 am)

    Thanks for the updated photo!

Sounds like some of our neighbors know this guy….

  • Eric June 26, 2014 (3:15 am)

Oh come on! In 20 years this guy is almost averaging being booked 2x a year and 3 warrants per year. Give this guy some real time! Stop wasting court resources and time.

  • Eric June 26, 2014 (3:15 am)

P.S. not to mention the police’s resources

  • flimflam June 26, 2014 (5:17 am)

34 bookings in 20 years? that is quite a pace, and he is quite the loser. wonder how much time he’ll actually serve?

  • anonymous June 26, 2014 (6:37 am)

It is good to see Bryan in handcuffs again. The sad news he will nark on others so the police will let him out again and again and again.

  • sam-c June 26, 2014 (7:19 am)

so ironic- a post about the Mayor declaring a summer of safety and then 3 out of the next 4 posts are all about violence and criminal activity (assuming the playground fire was arson). sad.
and sad that no-one stopped to help this woman.
    get your *^%$ together people.

  • Jason June 26, 2014 (8:52 am)

I’m not condoning the fact that nobody stopped for the woman because it’s unfortunate, but if you are driving down the road on Alki in the summer and someone comes screaming at your car what do you do? A lot of us might assume it was a trick and we were going to be robbed. Sorry lady, I would like to think I’d have stopped but if I’m being honest I have no idea if I would have.

  • alki resident June 26, 2014 (9:32 am)

Jason-Youre very right and had I been driving and a screaming lady runs towards me,Id think domestic violence, which for me, Id assume Im going to get killed along with her once he catches up to us.
Gatewood Mom- I never blamed Bryan for ALL the car thefts. He is a big part of the problem and always will be because he’s a career criminal. Like I said to WSB, I know a lot more than whats being found on public records. He doesn’t just CRASH at his moms, he uses that neighborhood to scout for quick theft. My ex mom in law lives two blocks from his mom and she watched him walk by her house slowly looking at stuff until he noticed her and struck up a conversation. The whole conversation was sketchy and uncomfortable. He never once remembered she knew him from being her sons friend in high school. And she had always known about his history. This happened this year. Also, a quick note. Maybe he has lived MANY places but non of them he paid rent for, since he doesn’t work.

Just an FYI, I was pumping gas around 7pm at the Shell at Alaska and Fauntleroy when a man approached me demanding my keys. He had no weapons as far as I could tell, but was definitely menacing and told me to be quiet and just hand them over. There were a lot of people around so I screamed in his face and ran into the gas station. Another woman witnessed it and started to follow him down the street while I called 911, but he got away before they finished taking my description. I didn’t stay at the scene because I knew by that point they wouldn’t catch up with him and just gave them my contact info.
He was about 5’6, Hispanic, mid 30’s wearing black shorts, a black hat, blue t-shirt and black backpack. I believe he had gotten off a bus a few minutes prior.

    • WSB June 26, 2014 (10:13 am)

Nat, was this last night? or?

  • natinstl June 26, 2014 (2:00 pm)

WSB, it happened Monday night around 7pm. It did show up as an incident report on the 911 map. I should have mentioned that I did end up seeing him again after I left the gas station. I drove east on Alaska as that is where he had headed to and when I made the left onto 35th he saw me in my car and started running towards the bus stop across from KFC. He jumped behind the bus stop and down to the track below. I couldn’t catch up with him again and didn’t bother to call 911 again as he would have already been gone.

  • Silly Goose June 26, 2014 (2:40 pm)

Just saw this scum bag at Jimmy Johns on Wednesday with his new Tatto that is what he does with everyone’s money spends it on Tatto’s. I say go after the mom, she is harboring a criminal and fully aware of what he does to get all the things she loves to spend money on! LOOSER FAMILY!

  • Kravitz June 26, 2014 (5:10 pm)

Jailed 34 times? For 59 warrants? In 20 years?
    THROW AWAY THE KEY ALREADY.
What a sad piece of trash that continues to turn up in our community.

  • Gatewood mom June 26, 2014 (5:29 pm)

    Silly goose,
Two non-law abiding individuals of that family do NOT merit calling the whole family a looser family. The rest of us turn in his ass and do not support his and her crap.

  • ron June 26, 2014 (8:51 pm)

bryan-if your reading this ,wtf bro, pull your head out. it aint workin for you bro. we grew up together. you are better than this . we are praying for you. your gonna die if you dont change your ways.i have hope for you , ive been there and done that. you have the power. god bless you and your son.he needs you,you need him. wise up bro

  • KW June 27, 2014 (8:15 am)

Bryan is piece of *****. He’s been terrorizing the Fauntleroy neighborhood for over 20 years and keeps getting away with murder. Our criminal justice system is an absolute joke and this guy knows exactly where the loopholes are.

  • Eric June 28, 2014 (4:53 am)

I swear I saw this guy (from the picture) yesterday morning (around 5:30) “shopping” at Westwood´s QFC with another guy that looked like a hard core meth addict. Those two just looked sketchy. The meth addict guy was walking around all twitchy with his head continually darting around as if he was being the lookout for something.

The guy that looked like a meth addict was lanky, had reddish-brown bushy hair with a beard and wears his shorts saggy. I also saw this same guy walking around aimlessly in Westwood Village as I was driving home from work yesterday. Anyone living in the Westwood area (as I do) might want to keep an eye out on anyone fitting this description because this guy looks shady

    • WSB June 28, 2014 (6:46 am)

According to the King County Jail Register, Bryan Tiedeman is still in jail.

  • huhh June 29, 2014 (11:17 pm)

Anonymous ; yeah that’s the word on the streets I never seen it on paper so I am not cosigning that but it is a little suspicious. I find it kind of surprising that nobody else even acknowledges your comment.
Alki res – no i cant enlighten you on what he does i have nothing to do with whatever he does. I just meant to say he is not a professional car thief and his arrest will not have any significant impact on car thefts in this or any other region.

  • bnb July 6, 2014 (1:34 am)

I can say that all the allegations brought against Bryan are crimes he hasn’t committed. He is not a car thief couldn’t steal a car if his life depended on it.He is taking the heat for someone who is not man enough to ride his own beef. And this FTA is BS.We were in court that Monday for over a hour.As far as the snitching a previous blogger mentioned I have read over all his cases and there is nothing on paper to back that statement up.And was bonded out on these charges. No ones perfect. And to drag my dudes name thru the dirt especially knowing your real identities don’t sit up and act like you haven’t done your own dirt.Live and let live.

Sorry, comment time is over.
