TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: West Marginal reopens after rollover/pole takeout; bridge crash earlier

(SCROLL DOWN for updates on the morning’s major incidents)

(WS Bridge and Highway 99 views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
6:47 AM: Spinout/flipped vehicle just reported blocking both lanes on the westbound bridge, westbound end before fork to Fauntleroy.

7:08 AM: No injuries reported. Westbound traffic has been diverted to the Admiral exit.

7:23 AM: Tow truck’s there but the scene isn’t cleared just yet.

7:43 AM: The westbound bridge JUST reopened – crash scene is clear.

7:52 AM: Another “non-injury rollover” reported, this time on West Marginal Way SW at Puget (map). A pole is down, per scanner. Both directions are reported to be blocked; City Light is en route.

8:32 AM: Our crew was told one person was taken to the hospital. South of the crash scene, northbound drivers are being turned around at the Alaska Marine Lines lot. SFD has cleared the scene; City Light is there now. (Also, thank you to Cathy and Nikki for updates – Cathy warns that the north-side turnaround for southbound drivers is precarious, so again, avoid the area TFN.)

9:09 AM: Photos added. Still closed, and with the pole/wires involvement, it might be a while. We’re continuing to monitor.

11:25 AM: Scanner discussion says one lane is now open each way on West Marginal.

on my way to work in north admiral and thought it was a strange sight to see cars backed up headed INTO west seattle at this time. then saw people on east side of bridge walking back words fauntleroy…. knew something was up!

Causing backup eastbound from Fauntleroy onto bridge, too. Lots of police responding.

Also noticed the fire/police presence as I drove down Admiral Way – and a big piece of a vehicle on Admiral Way – yikes!

    Workdowntown:

I was wondering where that hunk of car (part of a quarter-panel?) came from. Thanks.

Seriously, there are so any accidents on that stretch of W Marginal Way.

    Still closed!!!

With the City Light work required, I’m guessing it’ll be a while.

@ Jay, you have no idea. Our building is just to the north of the “S” curves – the things we’ve seen over the years…

Our guys have been trying to direct traffic to turn around at the north end of the scene so that the trucks have room to turn around, but the drivers of the passenger cars just keep whizzing by…

Two large crane trucks showed up a short while ago, and a Seattle City Light pickup just arrived at the north end, looks like he’s setting up road block signs.

BTW, I’m not sure how it was handled getting traffic turned around at the south end of the road, but at the north end it was well over an hour until someone from SPD arrived to relieve the volunteers trying to get the vehicles turned around safely and further north of the accident. People were driving too fast, ignoring the directions to stop and turn around and not giving the semis enough room to get turned around.

Don’t know the delay but it was dispatched very quickly, at least for the south end; I’ve been listening to the scanner since the AH fire started our day at 5 am. They were talking almost immediately about getting permission to use the AML yard as a turnaround on that side. But it was a busy time – the bridge crash required traffic control, and there have been various other incidents this morning…

Just a reminder from someone who lives in the area near the accident. The curve north of Alaska Marine lines, and south of the T-109 park/temporary truck parking lot, is dangerous and sees a lot of accidents. Please, slow down and drive carefully on West Marginal. The lives you save may be those of my family and my neighbors. And yours as well!

There still is a chunk of auto body at the foot of Admiral Way, on the sidewalk where Admiral turns west onto 30th. Wonder if this is from this morning’s wreck, and who picks it up? Not something you just toss in your car or in the trash can.

Sorry, comment time is over.
