Bike rider hurt in Beach Drive hit-run

Another hit-run crash has left a bicycle rider hurt – not seriously, this time. It happened in the 3700 block of Beach Drive SW; SFD checked out the rider, whose ankle was hurt, and was waiting with him for police to arrive; he told us he didn’t get a good look at the car, which continued northbound on Beach Drive.

SIDE NOTE: Last Thursday night’s hit-run at the east end of the low bridge remains unsolved; the vehicle description made public hours later remains the most information we have about it. A relative of the rider posted a comment today saying he did survive and that they’re grateful for those who helped him at the scene.

  1. That’s a rather large, inverted picture… ;)

  4. Hi. It’s not White Center (the citywide media always gets the area wrong), it’s Top Hat. It’s covered in full on our WC-and-vicinity site:

  5. Glad the cyclist was not seriously injured physically. Must be very frustrating to go through something like that and have the driver either be unaware or too cowardly to take responsibility. I am both a cyclist & motorist; repaving could make that stretch of Beach Dr. much safer for all users.

  6. Beach Drive is too heavily populated for the current 30mph speed limit. I’ve seen many people exceed the speed limit by quite a bit. It’s time to have the limit there reduced to 25 mph (like other residential streets), and post speed radar cameras to make $$$ off the dimbulbs who are too stupid to adapt.
