Update: ‘Small fire’ in 9000 block 16th SW, no injuries

5:47 PM: Seattle Fire is on a “fire in single/family residence” call in the 9000 block of 16th SW. More to come.

6:18 PM UPDATE: Thanks to Mike for updates in comments while we were en route. 16th is blocked by the Salvation Army building. No reports of injuries; we are told it was a very small fire in a boarded-up structure on the alley. Some of the SFD units are now leaving.

6:39 PM UPDATE: Mike reports 16th SW reopened (shortly after we left).

Heard the multiple response sirens, I’m on 4th ave sw and Roxbury, went outside for 30sec to see if it was close because it was getting really smokey over here and i can still smell it… Hope all are ok.

This was in the back section/add-on to the old, vacant house that last had a fire in Nov 2012.

    .

Didn’t see any smoke at all, although I went out front first, but could smell the smoke (not overly strong) as I walked out my door.

    .

SFD had L11 in the alley, other units out front, and the Crew was pulling out insulation, etc, from that back section.

Thank you for the updates, our crew is finally almost there.

16th still blocked as of 6:15. Failed to mention that part in my first text to WSB. Sorry!

Saw P. but didn’t want to interrupt him doing his job.

    16th now open.

Miws, did you see a dude in a gray poofy jacket with seahawks hat? That was me. If you ever see me in the neighborhood say hi. I live across the alley from you.

  • miws February 28, 2014 (7:27 pm)

Don’t think I saw you, MM, but will keep an eye out in the future, and will say hi.

    .

I was wearing a dark hoodie, and sweat pants. Hoody is a bit unusual for me, but when I went out to 16th the first time in just a T-shirt, got c-c-c-cold!

    .

In general, when I’m in the alley, and not simply dumping compost/recycle, I’ll be heading in/out from the south end of the alley, wearing a light weight dark jacket (unless it’s nice like today was), a beige-ish cap, and using a cane.

    .

So, likewise, say “Hi” if you see me!

Will do! I’ve been hoping to meet you but the rain keeps me inside. I’m tall, blonde typically I’m being dragged along by my tiny dogs.

Just noticed brown water from the tap, presumably from a hydrant being used.
