Between Alaska and Admiral, I’d say we have 1.5 or 2 inches.

It is so ridiculous to even hold school today. Parents have to juggle all of this for three hours of school that includes lunch break??? Really?

Just adding it up and thinking the same thing. Three kids, three schools– dropping off at 9:30, 10 and 11:15, then picking up at noon, 2:30 and 3:30. And I’m supposed to be working today.

Just stay home and be safe! It is your life.

I use to think Mom was silly for refusing to drive in snow. She told her employer if they wanted her to work when it snowed they would have to drive her to and from. Some days they did, but usually she could just stay home safe and warm.

I can’t tell you how many near misses I have had over the years driving in snow in the Seattle area. Now I do not drive in snow either.

In the scheme of your life, missing a day of school or work is a teeny tiny drop in the ocean.

No school at West Seattle Montessori

Seriously, 2 hour delay on an early dismissal day? Save the gas money on those buses and just call the whole thing off.

SPS once again showing how poorly run they are and how little they comprehend the big picture. So sad.

  • wsneighbor December 20, 2013 (7:36 am)

For people who are criticizing SPS for continuing with school today, even though it will be a late start and an early dismissal, please know that if school were canceled entirely today, it would count as a snow day that would need to be made up in June. I’m not above criticizing the district, but I actually agree with their decision to continue with school today, given the make-up issue. Also, it’s still early in the winter, and we don’t know how many more serious snow days might lie ahead.

Honestly, I would rather have extra days at the end of June. The delayed starts completely wreck your day. My schedule is completely whacked now.

@wsneighbor – Spending 3 hours in class can hardly count as a day. They are not trying to benefit the kids but need to count the day for funding.

I know a lot of parents that are not even going to bother with school today. they will home school for a couple hours and get more work done.

Shorewood Christian is still saying 10am start. (didn’t see them listed)

    • WSB December 20, 2013 (8:25 am)

Thanks, Jason – I actually added them a couple mins before your comment, they had JUST sent word. Or maybe that was you texting us.

  • k December 20, 2013 (9:08 am)

You have got to be kidding that people are going to keep their kids home and “home school” them for one day. HA!

  • WSEA December 20, 2013 (11:40 am)

@k – I must be a crazy parent to be responsible and take over when the schools cant teach. sorry you don’t feel the same way. To each his own.

Attendance was way down today. Many families just kept their kids home. I must say it made for a lovely day for staff and attendees alike! Lots of Winter Fun for the kids who showed up. And no makeup day. YAY!

Sorry, comment time is over.
