(Friday morning photo in The Junction, by Christopher Boffoli for WSB)
It’s the shortest day of the year – but the Winter Solstice is here at the moment we’re publishing this (9:11 am), so, from here, we start going back the other way (here’s the chart). Solstice events are on our highlights list for today/tonight, and more, from the WSB West Seattle Holiday Events/Info List (which covers everything through New Year’s Day – and holiday recycling afterward!) and our regular year-round calendar:

‘LONGEST NIGHT’ SERVICE: Tibbetts United Methodist Church (WSB sponsor), 7 pm, is “for folks for whom the holidays are not the most wonderful time of the year – we will acknowledge grief and loss of all kinds and a just feeling-out-of-sortness and end on a note of hope. This is a service for people who find themselves out of step with the joy of the season. It acknowledges those feelings of grief and loss and finding yourself out of step with those around you through readings and music, lighting candles and words of hope. We hope that you will join us if this is a service that would be helpful for you and if you know someone for whom it would be helpful, don’t just tell them about it, but bring them along.” (3940 41st SW)

Is anyone doing gift wrapping in The Junction today?

    • WSB December 21, 2013 (10:27 am)

The only gift-wrap event we have for this weekend is the ongoing Furry Faces/AARF fundraiser … and today they are at Elliott Bay in Burien so it’s not on this list (but is in their full schedule in the Holiday Guide). If anyone knows of others, hope they will let us know! Someone somewhere mentioned Barnes and Noble/Westwood has had nonprofits doing fundraising but I can’t find a schedule so can’t guarantee anyone’s there today. – TR
