West Seattle Christmas Day 2013: Coffee, restaurants, grocery stores, lights, transportation, more

December in Seattle.

Merry Christmas! We start the day with our traditional attempt at holiday helpfulness:

WHO’S OPEN FOR COFFEE: Here’s our list. If a West Seattle coffee shop told us during our recent round of calls that they would be open today, that’s noted here. Not necessarily an all-inclusive list, though we try our best, so if you find that someone is open but not on the list, please let us know! Same goes for any other change.

WHICH RESTAURANTS ARE OPEN? Here’s the list. Similar caveats.

WHICH GROCERY STORES ARE OPEN? Here’s the list. Since it’s a short list, it also mentions who’s definitely closed.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS MAP: Going out to look at lights tonight? See the map on the WSB Holiday Guide page.

TRANSPORTATION: Metro is on a Sunday schedule today. … The West Seattle and Vashon Water Taxis do NOT run today. … Washington State Ferries‘ Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route is on a regular weekday schedule. … Sound Transit is on a Sunday schedule. … In Seattle neighborhoods with city pay stations/meters, parking is free today.

DINNER AND TOY GIVEAWAY FOR FAMILIES WITHOUT HOMES: The Skate Church is offering dinner and toys to homeless families 2-7 pm in their basement HQ at West Seattle Baptist Church. (4157 California SW)

Just a neighborly reminder to be nice and patient with the places that are open. Places listed here can get slammed and some of the employees aren’t aware of this list. I work in healthcare, not food but I feel for the smaller places that stay open.

The Yen Wor will be open from 9:00pm-2:00am Christmas night. Karaoke at 9:00.

Thanks, Guy. Any food or just bar?

A terrible beauty is slammed…but shadowland is wide open

Terrible Beauty is slammed. Food took an hour to come and our stew was cold.
Usually we have a great experience here, think they are understaffed.

Note, on the list itself, someone has commented that Shadowland is drinks only, not food. They e-mailed us that they changed their mind about hours and had opened today at 3 pm. – TR

Tanya- did you forget today is a “holiday” instead of complaining about cold stew, why don’t you thank them for being there to serve you. I’m sure they would rather be enjoying time with their families instead of helping rude customers that clearly don’t understand that you being there only keeps these places open year after year.

You are probably the same customer that goes into a grocery store on a holiday and says that’s too bad you have to work today. Hopefully you get off soon. How about stop shopping on the holiday and let the people take the day.

    Merry Christmas to everyone else!

Sarah, we love a Terrible Beauty and we are grateful they are there. And believe me, I was not rude. We did not send any food back. We didn’t complain. We understood that they were slammed. And I understand working on Christmas sucks. And, we looked for a local restaurant to support, because my sister was visiting town and my husband has been working 70 hour weeks, and my oven is broke. We will continue to support their business in the future, because we love them. Thanks for the Christmas attack.

Sorry, comment time is over.
