From White Center Now: West Seattle crews help @ WC fire

West Seattle’s Engine 11 (in our photo) and Battalion 7 have just cleared the scene of a major house fire in White Center this morning, for which the Seattle Fire Department provided “mutual aid.” The fire caused major damage to a home in the 10000 block of 11th SW (map); full coverage including video is on our partner site White Center Now.

A big thank you to the men and women who risk their lives to protect us and our belongings!

I am not making a presumption as to the cause of the fire, but people have begun to use their fireplaces & stoves as the temps have dropped. If you use a wood burning device in your home, be sure to clean it/check it out before firing it up this year. We went to fire ours off for the first time last night and after looking at it, decided against it. It probably hasn’t been cleaned in over 10 years.

I’ll be watching to see if there is any way we can help the family that lives in this home.
    Be safe out there everyone!

Thanks, Breezy – and again, with the caveat that we also have no new info on the fire’s cause – in terms of fire safety, another point about heaters – make sure junk is cleared away from the baseboards and wall heaters that haven’t been used since last winter. Checking on ours right now!

I’m not sure but I think a family lives there. Is there an agency that is stepping in to help them? Is there a place where we can donate clothing, household goods or cash to help?

Hawks – the Red Cross is often brought in to help. I don’t know in this case if any help was being sought – the fire wasn’t even out yet when we were there.

Sorry, comment time is over.
