West Seattle road work: Alki Avenue repaving next week, after California SW work

Another road-work project next week in West Seattle. Here’s the announcement from SDOT:

Drivers should expect congestion on Alki Avenue Southwest next Thursday and Friday, August 1-2. Seattle Department of Transportation paving crews will work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Alki Avenue Southwest removing the old roadway surface and laying new asphalt. One lane of traffic will remain open for each direction of traffic. The Alki Trail, all crosswalks and sidewalks will remain open.

This is in addition to the repaving work first reported here yesterday – California SW between Graham and Fauntleroy, scheduled for next Tuesday-Wednesday, July 30-31, right before the Alki project.

This is off topic, but related to road repair. I have noticed that there are uniformed off-duty SPD standing guard on Holden and Delridge at all hours ( saw one at 4am this morning).

Do you know if it is normal for SPD to be at construction sites at all hours or is there a specific reason?

Its my understanding that construction companies can – and often do – hire SPD officers on their off-duty hours for security and traffic management. There’s even an company that helps with booking.

    Thanks, that explains it.

Well, the stretch by the slope project has been promised by SDOT as soon as that’s all done.

Delridge has the worst pot holes for years, so hopefully they finish the project soon.

If I was doing work in the Delridge area, I would definitely hire off duty SPD officers to watch my expensive construction equipment.

Sorry, comment time is over.
