West Seattle Weather Watch: Heat-wave heads-up

Just in case you haven’t already heard – and even though it might be hard to believe on another day of summer rain – the National Weather Service says hot weather really is on the way. This morning, they issued a Special Weather Statement – read it here – with word that by next Tuesday or so, temperatures could go into the 90s. So if nothing else, this is early warning to get the fan(s) out of the basement, among other preparations.

And if you need to buy any fans, or other heat wave relief stuff, be sure to do it in the next few days if your budget allows.

    .

Waiting until the heat wave has it, is pretty much a sure guarantee that stores will be out, or at least have very limited stock, no matter how many the store may have ordered in preparation.

Please Remember not to leave Children or Pets in parked cars alone.
If its hot out and you need to run to the store for just a few things, please take children in with you & leave your dog at home. Pets will be much more comfortable at home than in a baking hot car.

Please don’t forget about your pet’s needs at home. Keeping them cool by making sure they have lots of water is important. You can add ice to their water. Another special out-door treat for doggies is to put a milk bone or other treat in a little disposable cup and fill it with water. Then freeze!

    Thank you!

Thanks, Noelle. This time around, the pet-safety advice really hits home for us since our girl cat Sweetie was recently diagnosed with cancer and we want to make sure she is as comfortable as possible – just went out to buy a new fan, in fact, and will be watching her closely when it heats up – TR

Alaska just had their once in a century heatwave last week, and its coming down our way now?

Also, Las Vegas may break record highs the next few days, according to friends there. Approaching 120 degrees.

A friend of mine in Phoenix posted her forecast on facebook and it is supposed to be 120 within the next few days.

Noelle Thank you thank you thank you, I have already seen two dogs left in cars in the past couple of weeks. DRIVES ME INSANE.

If you would not leave you kid in the car, do not leave your dog in the car. THINK PEOPLE

Sending love to Sweetie, had to put down my 15 year cat Memorial Day weekend, one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I hope she gets better TR!

This weather will make for a loud and incendiary 4th of July.

Already longing for October:( (I’m not a summer lover.)

  • pupsarebest June 27, 2013 (9:52 pm)

I sympathize with Last53BusRider—not totally down on Summer, but 72 degrees is as warm as it ever needs to get for me, and ALWAYS welcome rain any time of year, and 100% ready when Fall arrives. :)

I love summer views and going barefoot. 75 is about as hot as I like, though. But my WS apartment is much cooler than our Wallingford digs (all concrete, no shade).

Just sharing info.. Bed bath and beyond looks like they are in stock on fans. I’ve heard several retailers are out of stock already.

Sorry, comment time is over.
