From White Center Now: Mom stops reported kidnap attempt

We’ve received a few questions about a reported kidnapping attempt in unincorporated King County, with a mom telling deputies she wrestled her 3-year-old away from a stranger last night in her own backyard. We spoke with the King County Sheriff’s Office about the case earlier today, and the story’s on our partner site White Center Now.

    Completely terrifying.

Good for the mom, but oh my goodness how scary.

What a nightmare. I wonder if the kidnapper was targeting that particular child? Crazy that someone would grab a kid and run right by his mom while trying to get away. This guy needs to found and jailed permanently.

I also read this week of 2 similar attempts of kidnapping at the Susan G. Komen event in Seattle last weekend. Very alarming!

I hope they identify and catch him. I can think of few things more horrifying than having one of my children kidnapped.

The child that was involved in the attempt at the Susan G Komen event was in my group “Team Margie”. It was very scary for my 7yr old daughter and I to witness something this evil. I’m curious if these events are related. Hope there isn’t some human trafficking organization taking up root in Seattle. Keep your kids close.

There is and has been human trafficking of teens there was a billboard about it (hated driving by it) over the WS bridge in the last year or so. It’s time to really teach parents and kids that there are real bad threats. With the Internet proliferating child porn (hello libraries!) these scum are among us and taking their sickness to the next level. I cannot believe they are just brazenly grabbing kids. My husband (an officer) wrestles with our 5 year old and teaches her what to do if God forbid this happens. He tells her it’s ok to kick, bite and scream if a ‘bad guy’ gets her. We also teach a blanket approach teaching her about non-strangers and what’s appropriate. It’s hard to do this with innocent children but we would rather she have some awareness than not.

That billboard is now by the 1st Ave bridge heading southbound.

I’ll take all of these related stories as a wake up call and make some adjustments….we live in a concrete jungle getting thicker every day. I don’t feel as if this has happened to “some other parent” and I too wonder if all of these stories aren’t somehow related,or if there has been a shift in MO. Either way I am back feeling anxious and paranoid just when I was starting to enjoy the sunshine and my WS community. Let’s take this seriously and up the security.

I’m so shocked by how brazen these attacks are!

This is not a WS/WC only arrempt.

Just heard in a radio report of another incident at Coe Elementary on Queen Anne of man attempting to enter a locked car where child was waiting for parent to return after dropping off sibling.

According to KUOW, all involve three- or four-year-old boys and are being investigated as related.

A possible QA suspect, again according to KUOW, was seen driving away in a

    red Grand Am.

Obviously speculation, but I wonder if the Queen Anne mother had left her purse / smartphone in the car? The person may have been after those items, not the child. I’m just saying that if someone is willing to leave their child unattended but took their purse with them, well that would be a little odd.

LthotheB, what makes you think it’s the mother? The comment just says “parent”

  • Anonymous June 4, 2013 (2:52 pm)

E, if you look up the Queen Anne case it says it was the mother. I’m assuming they must have read the article before making that comment. Not that it being the mother makes a difference.
    Scary times though..

OK — could someone be paying meth heads to abduct kids for trafficking? Some meth/crack addicts will do anything to maintain their habit. I am concerned that there is something organized going on here, though they appear random.

    Absolutely horrific.

Sorry, comment time is over.
