Parking alert: Southwest Library plans lot work later this month

An alert just in from the Seattle Public Library:

Beginning Monday, May 20, parking stalls at the north end of the Southwest Branch parking lot and the entrance from 35th Avenue Southwest will be fenced off and unavailable for several days while improvements are made to the parking lot.

Patrons can still enter the parking lot from Southwest Henderson Street during construction. Work is expected to be completed by Tuesday, May 28.

The Library is improving the parking lot to make it easier for patrons to use. Construction work will involve widening the parking lot and the 35th Avenue Southwest entrance, and moving the bike rack closer to the entrance.

These improvements are funded by the Library levy that voters approved in 2012. For more information, contact the Library at 206-386-4636 or

hooray! This parking lot is one of the more annoying places to try to park.

Agreed, I look forward to improvement! I often just park on the street–and my car is not big.

thank god; that parking lot is ridiculous; hope that also means they’ll be re-lining/widening spaces, which currently only fit teensy tiny cars, but giant suvs park and either take up 2 spaces or park so close to other cars you can’t even get into your car; I was once blocked by other cars on both sides, literally trapped at the library (well, I suppose I could have tried to crawl into my car via the trunk); so now, if I park in that lot, only next to a curb, so not to be trapped; anyway, this is very good news

I hope they make more spots. There is not that many spots to park.

Sorry, comment time is over.
