I have to say it again - police stress, even insist, you want to call 911 in a case like this. NOT the non-emergency number. Read the crime-prevention coordinator's newsletter we linked to last night -
http://wsblockwatchnet.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/march-edition-of-the-community-safety-newsletter-from-spd/
.
or numerous times we have reported this being said at meetings, by police leadership - if they are busy with higher priorities they will put you on hold, but 911 is your best chance to get a live person. Obviously there are some things - reporting something you found, for example - that are clearly not for 911. But they insist, default to it otherwise. Believe me.

206-625-5011 non-emergency number. You still get at 911 operator you are just put in a que until the emergency calls have been answered.

I thought they were firecrackers too. But they were LOUD and much later than the 8pm report from the 2000 block on Sat. The Sunday one shot was earlier in the evening.

If you hear possible shots - or hear/see anything else suspicious - CALL 911. Police say this over and over and over and over and over again. The call-taker's job is to route you to the right place. And don't be put off if they sound brusque, police say - their job is to collect information quickly about what you saw or heard. - TR

I did not hear those shots, but exactly one hour later there were another two shots fired closer to the Highland Park Elementary area.

If you heard any of these shots, please call SPD and report what, where and when you heard it. You can call anonymously by blocking your cell phone number.

The important thing is to get it officially reported to SPD - posting to Facebook or WSB is not reporting. In order for more patrols to be assigned to cruise the area, SPD looks at the number of phone calls they get from a given area. If nobody reports, then the problem area doesn't get a car sent until after something happens.

So, tell your people to call and report what they see and hear.
