“Stray” gunfire hit a car in an alley off Delridge, according to this report published on SPD Blotter:

A woman’s vehicle window was shot out as she pulled into her apartment complex tonight in West Seattle.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. officers responded to a 911 call of shots fired in the alley behind the 8400 block of Delridge Way SW. A woman who was pulling into her apartment complex had her vehicle’s window shot out but was not injured. I live in this complex… And the main part of this problem is that the people that were involved (excluding the female) with this situation have been repeatedly bringing drug deals into the parking lot along with their gang activity. I have repeatedly brought this to the attention of the complex manager and always get the same response “There is nothing we can do” ….. I have called the police several times and see no results.. When I first moved in the drug deals were in the open however less obvious where as now it is long gone to just blatent deals at all times…

omg, I live in the 9200 block of 17th, one block off Delridge. This neighborhood is so awful. :(

Jazzaria – can you get anything on video without being seen? If so, start filming and sending them to the police. Keep it up for a few weeks and if the police continue to do nothing, call the media.
We’ve got to do something to try and clean up this neighborhood. I’m sick of being the red-headed step-child of Seattle.

We have a meeting on March 6 – Wednesday – at the SW Branch of the Library. Please come. Please. There are things you can do with the help of neighbors like you who care. Don’t give up. We can all help each other.

    Jazzaria (and Amie),

I am your neighbor in Highland Park.

I have seen that gang’s tags on the south side of the parking lot/building and since September also on many other structures on Delridge as welI.

I called the Seattle Graffiti line and asked them to try to work with the apartment building owner because sometimes they can do that with cooperative owners rather than cynical, fearful managers. It will help the situation if you all could get more of your immediate neighbors on Delridge to call and anonymously report to the city’s Graffiti Line with 1) the exact address/location of every gang tag you can identify.

    2) you can get your building organized to fight this with the help of the Southwest Precinct Community Police Team. Get a Blockwatch started in the building and/or on the street. There is another group who can help support you – the West Seattle Blockwatch Captain’s Network (WSBWCN). There are active blockwatches around you both. Your neighbors are keeping an eye on each other and it is time you do the same. Do you know where the nearest Blockwatch is to you? Contact the Community Police Officer and WSBWCN and find out.

Don’t let these jitterbugs get you down. Make a few phone calls and empower yourselves by ORGANIZING the people who know that true strength is in numbers. The Good Guys out number the Bad Guys.

Do NOT despair. Make the phone calls. Believe me, you will be glad you did.

Thank you for posting very helpful information…I will be a very busy bee tomorrow.
I have lived in my house for years. I am fed up with the violence that increased as of recently. I intend to help this community.

And, as your good neighbor Amanda posted above, each of you should try to attend YOUR community meeting on March 6 at SW Library. There is much more support awaiting each of you – with good info, more good resources and meeting the other proven Good Guys who care and Do Something.

a good application of rocksalt and split peas would work wonders in reinforcing the {leave other peoples property alone} message.. applied liberally and explosively to their back-sides.

  • meeshupolarne February 22, 2013 (10:53 am)

I live 2 blocks south of this, we got to the point where we put a camera up to watch our section of the parking lot, but the manager(s) won’t put any of their own up. Definitely moving out from this neighborhood the first chance we get.

  • westseattledood February 22, 2013 (1:44 pm)

    Meeshupolarne,

Please go to the March 6 meeting. Look at all the other folks in the above-post just ike you who are doing the right thing but doing it without support of like-minded neighbors!!!

You do NOT need to, nor Should you, try to do this on your own. You have neighbors who feel the same way as you, out of sheer weary frustration. But when all of these neighbors gather under one roof on March 6 at SW Library with the united goal of stopping some of this okey-doke, their game is going to change, given some united effort by folks like you.

Do not give up, yet. Give yourself and your neighbors the opportunity to show them the good neighbors are Mighty!

Sorry, comment time is over.
