Video: Chief Sealth Percussion Ensemble to state competition

That just-published video shows a winning performance – the Chief Sealth International High School Percussion Ensemble, led by student leaders Farhan Vohra and Francisco Leon, under the direction of CSIHS band director Marcus Pimpleton – as they won the Elliott Bay Music Educators‘ Solo and Ensemble competition last weekend at Seattle Pacific University. In April, they will represent the Seattle area in the large percussion category at the WIAA/WMEA State Solo and Ensemble competition in Ellensburg. Congratulations!

  1. Thanks for the positive coverage of our percussion students. I am really proud of the work they have done. This is actually the third consecutive year that they have won the regional competition and been selected to represent the region at state and the majority of the credit of that is due to our amazing percussion coach Josh Chan who has volunteered his time each of the last three years to help prepare and motivate the students for the regional event. This year we also had an alumnus, John Aguilar, who has also provided a great deal of leadership to the students. Thanks Josh and John.

  2. Thanks, Mr. Pimpleton, and congratulations. Our archives didn’t have a story on this last year so I checked the 2012 results:

  3. Yeah last year was a busy spring. The jazz band was in New Orleans at the same time the percussion ensemble was at state. At state there was an issue with the the set up taking too long wso they ended up getting dinged pretty hard for being over time, and fell short of the Superior rating needed to be listed in the results.
