Also from the in-case-you-wondered file: Crashed car in Gatewood

If you’ve driven up or down the California SW hill through Gatewood today and noticed that wrecked car in the 7300 block … so did Lawrence, who sent the photo. It’s from an incident just before 6 am today involving something of a double crash. Seattle Police spokesperson Det. Renée Witt says first two vehicles collided and while the drivers were exchanging information, another car came along and hit one of them. The police records note – as you are probably well aware – roads were icy at the time. Seattle Fire spokesperson Kyle Moore says they responded to what originally was called in as a car versus a pedestrian, with a 26-year-old woman hurt; she had “minor pain and a few lacerations” and didn’t need to be taken to the hospital, he said.

8:21 PM UPDATE: Commenter Kira says that contrary to what SFD told us, two people were hurt and did go to the hospital, along with sharing some additional clarifications – see Kira’s comment here.

Hope he doesn’t get a ticket for being on the sidewalk AND in a driveway. Bummer

Hey now West Seattle Blog, please get the facts straight before you put them online, or do not put them on here at all. First of all, two people were injured and they did go to the hospital, both are doing much better right now. The car was hit early in the morning, information was exchanged then the driver who hit the vehicle left after that information was exchanged. While my sister and her boyfriend were gathering their belongings from the wrecked car, and second car, most likly driving too fast, hit the car again and sent my sister and her boyfriend flying threw the air.
It is extremely icy out and we all know that so, SLOW DOWN! Folks drive entirely too fast up this hill as it is.

Hi, Kira. I am sorry to hear about the crash victims and glad they are better. What is written above is exactly what the police and fire departments, both of whom responded as you know, told us, as attributed. I will add a pointer to the update included in your comment. Thank you – TR

Um, Kira – if you know anything at all about the WSB and the people who run it you’d know that getting the facts straight with fair and balanced reporting is of utmost importance to them. Calling them out in the comment section is really, really not cool.

I agree that people drive WAY too fast up AND down this hill, and along the entire length of California Ave between Thistle and Othello. I was PASSED by a very fast-moving car last week while I was driving 30 mph on California at about Holden. I have tried to call the City of Seattle about this in the past and have gotten no where. Is there any way to get something done to tampen the speed on this section of Calif.Ave?

sl – call 911 and report driving like that. Get the plate # and phone in erractic driving – they’ll alert officers in the vicinity and *maybe* in looking for the vehicle, observe them doing something else. They can at the very least pull them over to let them know what was reported, so the people know others are watching. I did this for the first time the other day after someone passed me on a blind curve going 50+ on Ambaum Blvd SW. They will follow up with you if you choose so you’ll know if the officer made contact.

Who is responsible for cleaning this up? The car and glass are still sitting there as of 1/17.

Sorry, comment time is over.
