West Seattle traffic alert: California/Fauntleroy light trouble, again

4:53 PM: Breaking this out from the daily transit/traffic tracker again today since it’s a major intersection – the California/Fauntleroy traffic signal in Morgan Junction is having trouble again (thanks to everybody who tipped us on this). Police are again helping direct traffic. We’ll keep an eye out for when it gets fixed; let us know if you see it working again before we’ve reported an update.

6:35 PM UPDATE: As commenters have noted, it’s fixed – just came through on our way back from the School Board work session. We’ll ask SDOT tomorrow if it’s been looked at for a chronic problem.

I just got back from there 25 minutes ago. There was no one there to deal with it, and the southbound California left turn onto Fauntleroy was stuck in the green arrow, so people were flying through there in the left turn lane, thinking they were chasing the green light. Unfortunately, everyone else was trying to inch forward as if at a stoplight, and pedestrians were crossing. It was a recipe for disaster. I called 911 and told them someone was going to get killed soon if they didn’t get a cop there immediately, and they seemed surprised, even though they’d had multiple calls the lights were out.

I’m curious too about what is going on with this light. Seems like there have been utility crews at the intersection frequently the last few weeks.

There were reports if light problems at this intersection about a year ago too.

Utility crews have been working on the power lines around this intersection for the past few weeks. Power surges and such can alter timing and equipment at the signal “cabinets”.

I’ve had some problems with the cross walk there the last few weeks, ether it not popping up or doing so when it’s obviously not time to cross.

Sorry, comment time is over.
