West Seattle Fight & Fitness: New martial-arts center on Delridge

What had been a boat business at 5050 Delridge Way SW is in the process of conversion to a martial-arts/fitness center. David Stegman from West Seattle Fight & Fitness e-mailed us to share the news of what he and his business partners have in progress there, and shared photos too, saying, “We are very excited to be a part of this growing community of local businesses!” They’ll specialize in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which he will teach: “I’m currently one of the highest-ranking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts in the Northwest and the only one that lives and will be teaching in West Seattle!” They’ll have a “full-fitness gym area,” too – here’s where it’ll be:

(More remodeling photos are on their Facebook page.) And they’re planning on classes for children ages 3 and up – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, tumbling, and Tae Kwon Do. He’s expecting West Seattle Fight & Fitness to open sometime next month.

Cool! More Delridge businesses are a good thing!!

I’ll be looking forward to seeing how they configure the gym and at what cost. The only Delridge commercial fitness club is 24 Hours in Westwood Village, which basically cut all early morning group classes as well as greatly reduced the remaining offerings when the recession hit.

SW Community Center shifted use of their small fitness equipment to the Teen Center. Delridge Comm Ctr. has a fair amount of equipment but no very early morning access.

I hope these folks are able to fill a much-needed, affordable, convenient and consistent early AM gym option for this community. With parking!!! Welcome and good luck.

There will be striking classes in the evening, focusing on a combination of styles (boxing, Muay Thai, etc).

We are offering classes starting at 6am running through the evening, schedule will be posted soon, check out the Facebook page for updates (www.facebook.com/WestSeattleFightFitness).

If the gym equipment they put in is nicer than the outdated stuff at AllStar I’m all in

That place has plenty of free on street parking, and from what I remember has a parking lot too. I could be wrong, haven’t driven by in awhile. I can’t wait to see the level of martial arts training there, definitely gonna check it out!

Traffic downtown is going to be horrendous soon. West Seattle needs as many recreational activities as possible!

Please consider getting a website. Not everyone uses Facebook.

  • WSFF September 21, 2012 (2:17 pm)

BearsChick – We do have a website…it’s still getting some work finished up on it, but it will be live in just a few days. :)

@nanda, there is a capoeira group in the tullys building in sodo and a capoeira angola group on king street in the ID. There also were some capoeira classes at the Youngstown cultural center for awhile.

@estseattledood: We also have All Star Fitness on Andover and they have good hours and lots of classes.

I am looking forward to the business. It sounds pretty cool.
