99 years young, Morey Skaret honored by retired officers’ group

Thanks to Brenda Donner for sharing the news that Fauntleroy’s legendary Capt. (ret.) Morey Skaret, 99 years young, was among the honorees at last night’s Seattle Police Relief and Retired Seattle Police Officers Association banquet. Capt. Skaret also served in the Seattle Police Department, and Brenda says, “The banquet honored SPD officers who have retired since last year’s banquet. Then they honored those previously retired who were in attendance; thus Morey’s honor … He was the ‘lowest serial number’ of all retired Seattle Police Officers in attendance; his SPD serial number was 406!”

Yes Maggie, the same. The bench there now recently replaced the one he built in 1938 or 39. Notice he is wearing a Coast Guard cap. He retired from the CG reserve as a Captain and served durin WWII in the So Pacific. A true hero from the Greatest Generation. A good friend and neighbor.

Morey, worked with my husband and has been a hero to me for many years! Sorry I missed the dinner! Next year!

What a great example! He doesn’t look older than 80!! His brother Al is a retired firefighter who lives in our neighborhood and is a total gem. I am impressed with this serial number and showed it to my husband. For reference his badge is in the low 6,000’s and has been on 15 years. Good job Morey!

Congrats, Morey! Agree with ‘amazing!’ that brother Al is a total gem. Pretty neat that West Seattle is blessed with the Skaret’s.

Yes, I’m very proud of my Dad. What a role model he is for me – still very positive about life and a gracious person. He is an amazing individual and dearly loved.

Morey (SPD #406) has been and continues to be an inspiration. He has had so many life experiences over the years and has shared the wisdom he gained with all. As Morey would say, “Old age is a privilege afforded to few and denied to many.” He is making the best of his life.

Sorry, comment time is over.
