Just in from SDOT, the customary weekly list of what’s happening elsewhere in the city, which we share here so you won’t be surprised to suddenly happen onto a roadblock/crowd/traffic jam/etc.:

Summer may be winding down, but there’s still a long list of fun events lined up for the coming weekend. On Friday night, at least 1,000 people are expected to enjoy a Sunset Supper at the Market (Pike Place) which features northwest cuisines and local libations. Friday through Sunday, August 17 – 19, the Hempfest will take over Myrtle Edwards Park with 50,000 – 80,000 people attending each day. On Saturday the Magnolia Village Car Show will line McGraw Street while the Rainier Heritage Parade and Summer Streets Celebration will move out onto Rainier Avenue in Columbia City.

For the sports-minded there’s no shortage of events and activities – on Saturday there’s a Seattle Sounders match and Seattle Mariners game in the SODO area, and a Seattle Storm game at Key Arena. On Sunday there’s both the Danskin Triathlon at Genessee Park and along the shore of Lake Washington, and the Lake Union 10K circling the lake. The day is topped off with a Mariners game at 1:10 p.m.

The Seattle Department of Transportation encourages motorists to help reduce pollution and traffic congestion by trying out one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible.
