West Seattle traffic alert update: Tree down on California Way

Headed back from a story, WSB co-publisher Patrick Sand happened onto this tree blocking California Way midway on the stretch between California and Harbor Avenues – no crew in sight so we’re reporting it (to 911) in case no one else has. Avoid the area for a while.

9:46 PM UPDATE: Probably has long since been clear, but we only just now got a chance to go back to verify – tree’s gone and road’s open

Crews had the tree cut into pieces and stacked on the side of the road when I drove by around 8 and were moving on to contend with the power line it brought down with it. Thanks to them for the quick response!

Did anyone really hear it fall? If no one really heard it fall, it may not have fallen at all.

You know, Bill, that was the mysterious thing. Co-publisher Patrick just happened onto it. No police, fire, whatever – but it was just … there. Perhaps it mysteriously and quietly decided to take a nap. Who knows …

Trees do occasionally fall down, unlike myself.

Sorry, comment time is over.
