West Seattle Crime Watch: Keep an eye out

Yet again tonight, police repeated the mantra of community watchfulness being the key to helping them catch criminals and solve crimes. While we’re finishing the story about the Beach Drive community-safety walk – during which that message was repeated – here are a few West Seattle Crime Watch notes from the WSB inbox:

“Hopefully the community will keep an eye out for the kids that are causing all this damage,” writes a school employee who sent an anonymous tip today about vandalism at Madison Middle School. He says, “Nine windows were scratched with gang and vulgar words” on the west side of the lunchroom last night, with damage estimated at up to $6,000, and, he adds, this has happened several other times in the past few years.

Rodell also is reporting vandalism, in a note sent late today:

Reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual or individuals responsible for throwing glass beer bottles at the vehicles on 48th street between Graham and Raymond. Malicious mischief is a gross misdemeanor punishable by one year in jail and a $5000 fine. The culprits have damaged two vehicles thus far.

Alisa, reporting a burglary at her home Wednesday night, had words of thanks for a watchful neighbor:

A few blocks away from the (recent) Delridge business robbery, my house was broken into … and the tv was stolen and general havoc (wreaked) in my house… My pets are ok and so am I (was at work at the time)… and would like to ask you to thank the random neighbor of mine (who I do not know and would like to thank in person) for reporting it to the police…

And Erin reported the theft of two bicycles on Wednesday morning with another bike left behind:

It’s May 30, at 8:00 am and the police just left our condo on Alki Ave SW in the 1200 block. Our bikes were stolen last night from the carport under our condo. The thief or thieves would have had to scale the fence and had some help getting the bikes out. Two Schwinn beach cruiser bikes were stolen. A Women’s red and white beach cruiser and a men’s blue and white beach cruiser. Looks like the thief or thieves left a small Schwinn mountain bike out in front of our condo. This sucks.!!!! Just wanted to let you know so people can be on the lookout for anyone trying to steal any other bikes. If the thieves are reading this….shame on you!!! Please bring them back, we loved those bikes!!

I challenge anyone to see anything happening at the back of Madison at night. Even from as close as the sidewalk.

To Rodell, We live off of Holly and 48th and had a ridiculous amount of teenagers cutting through our property around midnight, up to no good blocking the street on 48th, we even had to contact the police. They responded but said they couldn’t really do much. I wouldn’t be surprised if the two incidences are related. But good luck getting the police to follow up with it.

Sorry, comment time is over.
