West Seattle Crime Watch: Auto theft; 2 car prowls

3 quick West Seattle Crime Watch notes this afternoon: First, Jeff‘s black Highlander with gray leather interior was stolen Sunday in the 8600 block of 36th SW and hasn’t been found yet – so if you see one that appears out of place in your neighborhood, please call police. Next, two car-prowl reports on opposite ends of West Seattle, this one from Lauren:

Just thought that this might help others in the area. My car window was broken and my purse, which was shoved under my seat and covered, was stolen from Westcrest dog park at approximately 1 pm today. The officers that responded to my call stated that there was another similar car break-in at the park last week at the same time.

And another car-prowl report was posted in the WSB Forum – member “WS Born” reported that her daughter was parked along Harbor Avenue near the 7-11 around 6 am Wednesday, went for a run, and came back to find a window smashed and “items stolen” from her car.

Wow, I’m reading this while we’re on our way to Westcrest. Do we know which parking lot? We use the one near SPD horse stables.

Putting valuables “under the seat” is really not a big deterrent to a dirtbag. That is the first place they will look. The only real defense is to not bring anything of value that you will have to leave in your car when you are going to parks or other places where they know you leave things in car. Sad but a fact.

I too would like to know which parking lot. I park near the horse stables too because it seems busier over there with the kiddie park and all.

The black highander (Jeff) has been parked by our house for a few days. We just called the police and they said this was a stolen vehicle.
We never would have thought anything of it- if it wasn’t for the Blog

We noticed the car parked on the hill alongside our home in Fauntlee Hills – called SPD and they responded quickly after confirming the vehicle was stolen. Car has been impounded. Thanks to WS BLOG for the posting of this stolen vehicle as we thought the car had been left by people visiting neighbors.

If you have a question about a car you can also look here: https://twitter.com/getyourcarback where SPD posts the license plate and description of stolen cars. That’s how I matched the one abandoned in front of our house last year :-)

Sometimes the thieves swap plates, people should keep in mind, so even if you don’t see a match – do call.

I found a GPS and pair of sunglasses stashed under some plants in the 7300 block of 35th Ave SW. Brought them to the SW Precinct station that day, Tuesday 6/26.

The week earlier break-in was done on the south parking lot right next to a playground.

Sorry, comment time is over.
