Update: More crashes – Fauntleroy Way, Delridge Way
April 3, 2012 at 9:09 pm | In West Seattle news, WS breaking news | 16 CommentsORIGINAL 9:09 PM REPORT: Thanks to everyone who’s been texting and calling about crashes – it’s been a dangerous night on local roads.

The latest is a crash in front of the opening-next-week Trader Joe’s in the 4500 block of Fauntleroy Way SW – and if you’re headed westbound on Fauntleroy, coming from the bridge, or 35th SW, you’ll be detoured onto a side street from Fauntleroy just before you get to the scene. Eastbound traffic toward 35th and the bridge is moving OK.
10:19 PM UPDATE: As pointed out in comments, westbound Fauntleroy is fully open again – we just checked it out in person, too.
Not related to the crash, but if you’re out driving tonight, remember the westbound Spokane Street Viaduct closure is now in effect till early am – we were just heading back from an errand on the other side of the bay, and the barricades were going up at 10 pm sharp.
11:28 PM NOTE: Another crash – this one, single vehicle, currently closing the 8100 block of Delridge Way SW. They’re calling an ambulance for a man in his 40s, though the injuries do not sound major at this point.

Thanks, Veteran, we just drove through as well … on the flip-flop from running an errand to Capitol Hill … and saw that, so I’m updating. It was already on the flatbed tow truck when I was outbound. On the way back, I just beat the exit closure from I-5, so late-nighters, remember the Spokane Street Viaduct westbound closure is now in effect till 5 am…TR

Trader Joes is so close to the road. I wonder if they’ve thought about putting any kind of protective barrier like metal poles in front of those windows.

Watch out for trucks parked at Trader Joe’s on the Fauntleroy side! A driver threw his door open into the traffic lane yesterday and I was barely able to avoid him.

Will trader joes have underground parking? The lot looks small

We had a story about this last week. There is a surface lot and there is a roof garage/lot accessible via 39th on the northwest side of the building. Should be atop http://westseattleblog.com/category/west-seattle-trader-joes

Probably preaching to the choir on this but watch out at the intersection of Fauntleroy and Alaska .. Once while travelling west on Faunt. in the left lane, I saw a guy come up on the far right lane which is right turn only and cut cross infront of me (across 2 lanes) and turn left on to Alaska. There is also a no left turn allowed sign at this intersection. Multiple violations within seconds. :) Just be careful going to the new Trader Joe’s.

@Comment by W.S. maverick – my thoughts exactly! I know many are glad to see Trader Joe’s finally here in WS, I just hope this busy location doesn’t create more accidents. Drivers, please be careful.

To WSratsinacage, Yes this intersection is very complicated and potentially unsafe. That is my vehicle in the above photo. The other driver came across 3 lanes and hit me head on. Miraculously we both walked away with minor injuries. I’m appreciative of the wonderful police officers and firefighters who took so much time with us. Also to the 2 witnesses who stayed and gave statements. Be careful everyone!

I am a bit saddened by my fellow West Seattlite’s priorities (or lack thereof). My concern is with the driver of this accident, not with a mere grocery store.
Hope they are healthy.
