West Seattle Crime Watch: ‘Uninvited guests’ in car

Police say car prowls are down – we’re not getting as many reports lately, either – but don’t get complacent; somebody broke into Toby‘s car the other night:

Just wanted to let everyone know my car was ransacked (Monday) night in my driveway on the 9200 block of 32nd Ave SW. Nothing appears stolen but glove box contents were thrown on the floor. CDs were also strewn about. I accidentally left my car unlocked so no lock or window damage. But I think that’s why I had uninvited guests as nothing of value was visible. It’s been reported to the police. Good luck out there!

Next West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting, by the way, is next Tuesday, 7 pm, Southwest Precinct (Delridge/Webster). Special guest, acting Parks Superintendent Christopher Williams, will talk about safety in city parks.

Our car and our neighbor’s car in the Fauntleroy area of SW Henderson street also had break-in’s on Monday night – noted by us at noon on Tuesday.
The glove compartment and console materials were strewn about but only the spare change was taken. Left were some very valuable things as well as single dollar bills. We also reported to police using the on-line car prowler option.

I had a similar thing happen with the same MO a couple years back. Someone broke into my honda civic, slid the seat all the way back, opened the glove box and threw all trhe contents on the floor as well as on the grass outside the vehicle. Hip hop and rap CD’s were missing and the change I had in the ashtray. Happened between 1 and 5 am.

Same thing here. Saturday night/Sunday morning. But they got a GPS and 2 MP3 players. I’m almost glad I accidentally left the door unlocked. My neighbor’s window got smashed. 39th & Hinds. Report filed.

I wish it was legal to pistol-whip car prowling tweakers.

our car was ransacked at 9200 block of 29th AVE SW a few months ago. it was very early, like 3am. it was a team of i think 3 guys, and they had an SUV driving them around. they had flashlights and everything, and they were going from car to car with relative impunity. i called 911 of course, and they seemed to be interested. i waited and watched from inside, but the police didn’t show up in the 10 or so minutes i waited, and finally, the guys moved on. it is SO frustrating to call about a crime in progress and SEE the criminals, and yet have no police come. i feel like we’re on our own in roxhill. the police don’t patrol our parks, and don’t often respond when we call about crimes in progress. [and yes, i have raised this issue at crime prevention councils–but the advice i get is to create a nighborhood watch. but the problem isn’t being unaware crime is taking place–the problem is having police present in our neighborhood and our park.]

Good Idea, we need a pistol whip your prowler law, or a baseball bat your prowler law! in WA State.

Sombody went through the stuff in my car last year, but didn’t take anything. I went to the police, to report it for their statistics, but said, nothing to report and send me away. I am not so sure how correct the statistics is then
