West Seattle Trader Joe’s: Now the real sign’s going up

(Photo by WSB editor Tracy Record)
Eight days ago, we showed you the first “signage sighting” at the soon-to-open West Seattle Trader Joe’s, as banners appeared on the construction fence, including “Now Hiring.” (Our February 29th story includes info on how to apply.) Driving past the site at 4545 Fauntleroy in The Triangle a few minutes ago, we spotted crews putting up the permanent signage. Projected opening date remains April 13th (no official corporate HQ announcement yet, so there’s always a chance it might change.)

SATURDAY NOTE: We have since photographed the second and third signs – you’ll find them on the WSB Facebook page.

With both PCC (way better than Whole Foods!) and Trader Joe’s I’ll never have to leave West Seattle :)

I noticed this morning that the inside is also starting to look like a Trader Joe’s!

Woot! We are hoping that the opening will spurn more development in the Triangle. The gas station… the hole … Bring it on! Welcome TJs!

They have some great food at great prices. Very glad they are opening soon and also that they’ll be adding jobs for this area.

    what is a ‘Trader Joes’?

  • jshow March 9, 2012 (7:36 am)

Love the cheese and goat milk that isn’t 5 bucks for a quart. They rock.

  • higgins March 9, 2012 (2:04 pm)

I’m with Mike and jshow, they have delicious stuff at reasonable prices. I have a weakness for goat cheese and right now I either have to pay $5 for a tiny log at QFC or make a special trip to Costco. I’m also partial to their roast beef, English toffee, and of course, wine!

Get real people, hate to break it to you. Its just a grocery store.

  • Jenni Watkins March 9, 2012 (7:42 pm)

Yipee no more driving to Buriun !!! Love the inexpensive vino& treats! No need for whole foods! Admiral thrift way is fantastic but for most working class folk trader joes is fabulous.

Whenever a new business was coming to West Seattle everyone always said “please be a Trader Joe’s”. Now that Trader Joe’s will actually be here what does everyone want to see come next?

I say a movie theater that plays current movies…then I’d NEVER have to leave WS! :-)

  • Jules March 14, 2012 (9:21 am)

Hey! Maybe a new theater (live stage, movie screens & restaurants etc) with underground parking as a huge added bonus in that giant hole just West of the new Trader Joe’s????

  • Marc March 14, 2012 (3:55 pm)

    TJs will get Vashon patrons!!

  • mackie images March 17, 2012 (2:48 pm)

Really looking forward to the convenience and selection but I have to say the produce at TJ is among the worst I’ve had anywhere.

  • ERK March 19, 2012 (9:28 am)

Vashon is buzzing over the arrival of Trader Joe’s. Having it located on a major bus/bike route just adds honey to the mix.

The entrance off of Fauntleroy and the dinky looking parking lot look logistically challenging and frustrating. Will it be as bad as it looks?

    • WSB March 22, 2012 (8:34 am)

Janice – There is also parking on the rooftop; the entrance for that is from 39th SW (across from “The Hole”). – TR

There was supposed to be a Whole Foods where the old Shucks used to be next to West Seattle Bowl, but after they came in and dug that huge pit, they pulled out of the project. I could care less if Whole Foods ever comes in, but Trader Joes, I’m super excited about

Sorry, comment time is over.
