West Seattle road work: Repaving for 1 more block of California SW

Just in from SDOT:

Our Street Maintenance paving crews plan to resurface California Avenue Southwest between Southwest Hudson and Southwest Dawson streets [map] toward the end of next week. They expect to keep the street open to both directions of travel as well as the sidewalks. The schedule is weather dependent — both for completing the projects they are doing before this one, and for this project.

They’re promising an official advisory when they have a better idea of exactly which day(s). This will be the fifth block of California SW south of The Junction to get repaved/resurfaced in the past half-year – last September, it was the block from Edmunds to Hudson, and then in December, it was Findlay to Graham.

One block at a time? It’s no wonder that our city is a financial disaster.

    What about Beach Drive?

I suppose SDOT will begin to look at the area around Graham where the RapidRide stop is being put because that stretch of California will NOT be a pleasant journey on any kind of bus due to the 10-inch deep potholes and the general deterioration which SDOT and the City Council/Mayor have allowed to happen while constructing vanity projects throughout the city (City Hall, Main Library, Mercer St., Deep Bore Tunnel) and ignoring basic infrastructure needs. Think Jeff Bezos and Paul Allen instead of Seattle residents or citizens when you wonder who your government serves.

ON THE 4000 BLOCK THE OTHER DAY OF CALIFORNIA THE OTHER DAY LIKE TWO OR THREE AT MOST HOUSES LEFT ON THAT STRETCH AS OF NOW. WHAT CHANGE THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE. THIS CORRIDOR IS GOING TO SOON BE BASTARDIZED MORE. SAVE WEST SEATTLE!!

Oh boo hoo. Get a grip. If you’re driving a car, you’ve got eyes that enable you to avoid the worst of it. Or slow down. And note, the story is about the streets GETTING FIXED.

People never tiring of complaining about potholes need to get a little perspective. We’re lucky here. Go drink the water just about anywhere else, for instance. Or go someplace where you can’t flush the toilet paper.

If you kept your eyes on the road at ALL times instead of having your face in your smart phone you could most likely miss the potholes and rough areas. Stop texting while you drive and give COMPLETE attention to the road you may also save a life.

If you have to spend your time watching for hazards IN the road that can damage your car as opposed to hazards ON the road I sure hope the other guy is looking out for you.

Wow touchy crowd. This is a really bad area. I hope they get all the way down by the Nursery. I’m glad they are doing it.

Sorry, comment time is over.
