West Seattle schools: Golden (Apple) night for Marcus Pimpleton

(Photos courtesy Bruno Cross)
He’s the Denny International Middle School music director, he’s the Chief Sealth International High School band director, Seattle’s All-City Band director – and he’s now officially a Golden Apple Award winner: Last night was the big event for Marcus Pimpleton, and we’ve received photos from the ceremony at the Intiman Theatre downtown. Sealth Jazz Band musicians were there:

And so were colleagues – with the honoree in the next photo, Alki Elementary principal Chanda Oatis (former Denny assistant principal) and Denny principal Jeff Clark, who notes, “Mr. Pimpleton does incredible things with our scholars every day — he richly deserves this prestigious honor”:

This is the 20th round of Golden Apple Awards presented by KCTS 9; we published first word three months ago. Here’s the official news release with the full list of statewide honorees.

I first had Marcus as a teacher when I went to Denny in 6th grade for band. However, I’ve known him since I was in 5th grade or so due to my siblings having him before me. Marcus has always had a way of leading people in a way that is both fun and productive. He is SO much more to his students than just a teacher- he is a friend and mentor. Marcus goes far above and beyond his duties as a teacher, and as a human being. He pushes everyone to their full potential and encourages them every step of the way. I am VERY glad to have had Marcus as a director for these past years. Thanks for everything, Marcus! Congrats!

Marcus is so deserving of this award! What an uplifting evening, hearing about some of the best teachers and principals in our area, and especially our own fabulous teacher. Congratulations Marcus!

The ceremony will be broadcast on KCTS on March 1 at 8:00PM. You will not be able to watch it without being inspired.
