West Seattle Crime Watch: Car break-in; gas-theft attempt

From the past few days, two West Seattle Crime Watch reader reports, both crimes targeting cars:

From Lisa:

Just wanted to let you all know that someone got inside my van and took a bunch of stuff including my sons’ homework folder (???). Van was parked behind my building (in the 5200 block of) California Ave SW.

And from Erin:

I wanted to let you know that sometime (Thursday night or Friday morning) someone attempted to siphon gas from one of our vehicles in front of our house in the 5600 block of 18th. It doesn’t appear that they got any out, as the tank was only a quarter full, but the gas cap was open and left off the tank, so it was obvious that they had attempted to steal the gas. … Curious if there have been any other reports of gas syphoning, but hoping they haven’t targeted anyone else!

The latest crime trends, by the way, will be part of the agenda, as always, at tomorrow night’s West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting, 7 pm Tuesday in the Southwest Precinct meeting room (southwest side of the building, off Webster, west of Delridge). Guest speaker is Metro Transit Police Chief Lisa Mulligan.

Lisa: I thought I had heard all of the homework excuses! He gets points for originality.

Marty: a colleague of mine’s briefcase was stolen recently, including a pack of just-graded student exams. I guess that’s one way to keep a bad grade off one’s record…

Our car was broken into last nigh near All Star.

The thief left a cigarette, but took our gps and a SPL audiobook about Jack London. Weird combo when there was plenty else.

This is not the first time has has been stolen/attempted in that area of 18th. I live just a few blocks down and drive a beastly vehicle…here’s hoping they don’t notice it, and glad they got nothing from you.

My car was parked a few blocks from Allstar fitness. It was broken into the morning on 11/11/11. My car stereo, along with some additional audio speakers were stolen.

Erin … Take your car to a mechanic. Your fuel line may be slashed. That is what happened to my vehicle over the summer. Also report to spd.

Dan–They tried to pry the stereo out with our ice scraper with no luck. It was halfway out of the dash when i found it. Sorry you weren’t so lucky.

From what I’m reading, North Dakota miners are making six figures these days and the companies can’t hire enough workers to keep up with the demand. If the SOB who’s damaging vehicles people need for work, and which people are hardly making sufficient funds in this debased economy to pay for the repair of the perp’s felonious undertakings, then maybe that SOB should head for N. Dakota and make the living he wants so badly. Oh, no, that would mean hard labor and good pay, so … never mind.

Sorry, comment time is over.
