Caffe Fiore: West Seattle’s newest coffeehouse opens Tuesday

That’s part of the loft at Caffe Fiore – opening tomorrow in a new North Admiral live/work building at 2206 California SW. Right next to West Seattle Fabric Company (WSB sponsor), whose proprietor Monica Skov was among those who dropped in for a peek at the shop tonight. They weren’t selling coffee, just opening the doors to anyone who wanted to drop by and have a look around. With the loft, it’s West Seattle’s only two-story coffeehouse. Caffe Fiore is what you might call a “micro-chain,” to take the phrase from a businessperson with whom we were talking at another event tonight; this is its fourth all-organic coffeehouse, with the other three in North Seattle Though the building is brand-new, the interior is designed to look historic upstairs – brick walls, recycled wood flooring, ironwork – and the lighting is so warm, our photos of people had to be converted to black/white, like proprietor Deming Maclise and general manager Katrine Callahan at right. You have to see it in person to appreciate it – and you can do that starting at 6 tomorrow morning (hours are listed here).

I’ll be there bright and early!

Do they have wi-fi? I didn’t see anything about it on the website.

The cafe looks beautiful – warm and welcoming. Can’t wait to check it out.

I am sorry to say I neglected to round up a lot of key details like menu, wi-fi … got a little caught up in the decor, and talking to people. No excuse. However, online references indicate other Fiore locations have wi-fi, so it’s a good bet this one does too. I’m hoping to hang out in that loft now and then when in north West Seattle, but I have the luxury of carrying my own connectivity, so I don’t pay as close attention to wi-fi availability as I should! – TR

This looks beautiful and I am sure it will be a success. Was really hoping for a place that would be open in the evening… Not every one wants to hang out in a bar to visit with friends after dinner.

Admiral Girl, I’m with ya … if I had capital, I’d open an evening coffee shop. Maybe evening only. We do have Ladro and Uptown, further south, open well into the evening … but somehow I always find myself wishing for a latte’ around 1 am. Capitol Hill has several shops open at least that late … but in WS, the curtain falls much earlier. Anyone else remember when B&O Espresso had a shop in the Zatz Bagels vicinity in the ’90s, coffee and dessert late at night? It’s the only memory from our early WS days (arrived in ’91) that I really pine for on occasion ! – TR

Oh goodness! So excited for this! As silly as it sounds, more coffee shops with seating are needed around here- went on Sunday to try and find a place to read and enjoy a latte, and struck out at 3 different venues- all filled up with people on their laptops.

My husband Erik stopped in there at 6am on his way back from walking the dog (he was their first customer!) and brought me home one of the best americanos I have ever tasted. Great coffee; beautiful, cozy space. Admiral just keeps getting better and better!

    I remember B&O! :)

Great little shop, I am in it now in fact! Everything is just about perfect, though, as has been expressed already I too wish that their hours went later into the evening. With the right marketing a late night coffee shop in WS could be a huge success. We chimed in when the Alki Beachside Cafe was in their opening phases, many recommending later operating hours and they failed to deliver! That all being said, with the exception of closing at 6:00 PM seven days a week, Fiore is AWESOME!!!

Went there today. The place is AWESOME! I don’t know if it was the soy or the coffee, but it tasted Great at 1st but it left a funky metalicy taste in my mouth. :( I’ll be back though to give the chai a whirl.

Had a most excellent breve’ this morning, looking forward to more! It is a beautiful place.

Any chance there is a play area for kiddos? As a SAHM (stay at home mom) I’m always looking for a place to sit and enjoy my coffee while the little one is happily playing.

    • WSB November 8, 2011 (11:01 pm)

JG – there is a corner in the loft where they told us during the Monday night open house, they will be putting in a kids’ corner. Not set up yet, though – and I didn’t get a timeline.

  • DJY November 9, 2011 (12:08 am)

    @ JG

The back corner upstairs in the loft does have a small area for children, with a small table and some toys. I am unsure if they plan to expand it – I don’t think so as the loft is not all that large as it is. It is enough to keep the little ones occupied long enough to enjoy a coffee!

    @ WSB [from 11/07/11 post]

“I’m with ya … if I had capital, I’d open an evening coffee shop. Maybe evening only.”

With so many West Seattleites expressing the desire for a late night coffee shop, akin to B&O, perhaps a movement could be started in which members of the community open their own. (I am half-joking) If the town of Green Bay, Wisconsin with its population of 2,000 residents can own and support a very successful NFL franchise, then I am thinking that WS can have its late night coffee shop!

  • Susie November 9, 2011 (2:12 am)

Are any of our local coffee houses (in WS) owned by WS residents? Just wondering… Thanks.

    • WSB November 9, 2011 (2:24 am)

Right off the top of my head … Hotwire and C&P, the two coffeehouses on the WSB sponsor team, are WS-owned. I would *guess* many of the one-off indies are – but gosh, they teach us not to guess, Bird on a Wire, I’m 99% sure. Samir and Breanna, new-ish owners of Red Cup in The Junction, definitely West Seattle per a recent story in our archives. Just a few that come to mind…

Thank you so very much for the incredibly warm welcome here in West Seattle! Your enthusiasm for our arrival and your pride in your neighborhood has been so encouraging! Caffe Fiore is so proud and happy to be a part of your community.
We are figuring out our hours as things move along, but if there is a demand, we would love to provide a warm place for the community to hang out in during the evening hours.
And the kids corner is up and running :)
Thank you so much West Seattle!
