West Seattle traffic alert: Crash on SW Alaska

Traffic is slow going on SW Alaska between 35th and 36th SW in The Triangle right now, in front of The Grove/West Seattle Inn, because of a crash involving at least two cars. No major injuries reported – a private ambulance is there to transport one person – but it’s blocking the westbound lanes.

So this is why no Metro buses have passed our house. Hope everyone is OK.

There is horrible visibility here when trying to cross or turn onto Alaska from any of the NS streets. Additionally people frequently park too close to the corners and the thru traffic is often speeding. Recipe for an accident.

Riders speeding east on Alaska pay no attention to pedestrians at this intersection. There are lots of children and adults crossing here, to and from the Y and other centers of activity. Too many of these idiot drivers regard Alaska between Fauntleroy and 35th as a speedway.

This is the second accident in the last 2 months on the same stretch of road. There are bus riders and children crossing Alaska ALL the time and too many speeding cars as well as low-visibility. We need a crosswalk immediately before someone is seriously injured.

I do not know if this is a reason for the accident, but the comment about folks parking too close to the intersection is a pet peeve for me. I often find I cannot see cars coming from the next lane as I am trying to cross or enter a street. Many folks violate the ‘do not park less than …. is it 20? or 30? feet from the corner’ … Anyway, if folks park too close to the intersection, you cannot see around the parked car and it is an accident waiting to happen. Please do not park close to the intersection.

Sorry, comment time is over.
