West Seattle scene: The man from the marquee, at Easy Street Records

Easy Street Records‘ West Seattle Junction marquee hasn’t changed in a month – retaining a message commemorating the release of the “West Memphis 3,” three men freed last month after spending 18 years in prison for murders that many believe they didn’t commit. Last night, Easy Street proprietor Matt Vaughan tweeted the photo you see above, identifying the man in front of the marquee as one of the three, 34-year-old Jason Baldwin. He didn’t say more about Baldwin’s visit – but there was already a WS tie: You probably already know that West Seattle-based rock superstar and Easy Street denizen Eddie Vedder was a leading advocate for setting the three free.

very cool! I noticed that marquee went up ASAP after the new ruling.

Very cool that one of them made it out here! Every time I walk by Easy Street and see the marquee I think their case and others like it. Our justice system is a flawed one, for sure!

Awesome! Enjoy every second, Jason. And a moment to remember all those others who have been wrongly jailed and who haven’t been so “fortunate” (after 18 years in jail) as the WM3.

Ooohh, the irony! I was jailed 20 years ago due to a false call from the owner of this establishment. Released the next day, but thanks Matt.

My heart goes out to the families of those poor little boys that were murdered. Such a horrible, horrible crime.

What a fantastic photo! Having follwed this case for half of my own life, while these young men spent half of their lives behind bars, it brings me such joy to see Jason FREE and in our great city! Welcome to Seattle, Jason!

@ Alki Observer, me too! The father of one of the boys doesn’t believe they did it, and from what I read and see – one of the moms doesn’t either. I hope they all find peace someday. It’s all so tragic.
