West Seattle scene: In pursuit of pink salmon at Lincoln Park

Thanks to Shelley for sharing that photo from Lincoln Park early this morning – the second day in a row that she reported seeing dozens and dozens of people fishing on the beach. We asked our fellow neighborhood-news publisher and Lincoln Park fishing aficionado Justin from CapitolHillSeattle.com what’s hot right now; he explained it’s the every-two-year pink-salmon run. Turns out our partners at the Seattle Times previewed it recently.

I ride my bike through the park to take my daughter to school at Alki in the morning. We saw this yesterday and she exclaimed “look at all the people fishing!”. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many on the beach down there for any reason.

Nephew on Vashon Island caught a nice four pounder
late afternoon on a–wouldn’t you fishermen like to know? lol.
Please, would some rich company bring back the
    $$$$$$$$$$$$million derby.
The 80’s were great fun anticipating the derby, in late august as I recall.
Quite a boost for the sport fishing industry.
Not to mention the fun of fishing with ones’ child. The dreaming of winning and the plans you would make with all that loot. Buying, of course a bigger boat. Fishing in new locales. Weekends just motoring for new spots. Ah, to dream isn’t it grand.

I’ve run our big dog, and family big dogs before him, around the point (Colman Pool), for many years. I stopped to watch for about 5 minutes the past two evenings. Never have I seen so many huge fish pulled out, left and right, as in the past couple of days. I counted 60 people all fishing the point, “cheek by jowl” as my Dad would say, and more were coming down the path. The huge grins matched the size of the fish, that’s for sure! Fish on!

Sorry, comment time is over.
