Decision’s in: Tonight’s West Seattle Outdoor Movies CANCELLED

Just in from Hotwire Online Coffeehouse (WSB sponsor) and West Seattle Outdoor Movies mastermind Lora Swift: Tonight’s “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” showing is CANCELLED – rescheduled for August 27th – because even though the weather’s been OK for a few hours, radar shows another wave of rain headed this way. So here’s hoping for better weather NEXT week, when “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” is scheduled (Saturday, July 23rd, dusk).

Yup. Massive downpour moved through in the 5 pm hour, and that was the problem – the movie folks set up all the equipment themselves and among other things need dry pavement. When you have to make the call in things like this – and we’ve been sponsoring the series for a few years now, so we’ve agonized through it with organizers – it’s darned if you do, darned if you don’t. There was one movie in last year’s lineup – “Up” – that went ahead despite a rainy forecast; a small diehard group of us got rained on. Not good for the equipment. And there was one year the call was made pretty early and then the rain never arrived. They also tried, year before last, to say that “if it rains, we’ll move over to West Seattle Christian Church’s activity center” – almost nobody showed up. This seems to be an “either it’s clear and we all have a grand time, or never mind” kind of activity – TR
