West Seattle Crime Watch: Hit-run search, stolen bike, more

Five West Seattle Crime Watch reports this morning – starting with the search for a hit-run driver. Amy sent the above photo and explains:

Our 1997 Toyota Tercel was struck by a hit and run driver Saturday morning (6/11) in the 3900 block of SW Orchard. The car is totalled with front body damage on the right side. The perps lost control coming around the corner at 39th and Orchard, tore up our neighbors parking strip and came to a hard stop against our parked vehicle pushing it backward about five feet. Damage to the car that hit would be the front passenger side. We did not hear the accident but our neighbor heard the crash sometime around 12:30 to 1:00 am. It was not a pretty car, but we had it for 13 years, it ran great, and it was much needed transportation for our family. We did call the police and received a case number-11-187004

After the jump – 4 more reports, starting with a stolen tandem bicycle (photo included):

From Alma:

I just wanted to let you know about a bicycle that was stolen from the carport under our house (1300 block of Alki) at the end of April, while my husband & I were on the East Coast dealing with medical emergencies. Unfortunately, I was too sick after we got back to notify the police until today, so it’s probably long gone.

Our bike is unusual, even for tandems, because the stoker (the
person in back) can stop pedaling — with almost all tandems, the
pedals always move in sync. This was perfect for us, because I have
bad knees and could only pedal for a minute at a time, while my
husband got a great workout pedaling us both around! So if you
happen to see one, could you please let the police know? They have
the serial number for ours.

From Robert:

Just wanted to let you know that my green 1993 Honda Accord 4 dr EX was stolen from in front of my house on the 4500 block of Othello SW sometime between 11:00 last night and 7 this morning.

An Arbor Heights neighbor had reported this Friday afternoon:

Police are investigating the totally stripped silver Acura Vigor, abandoned at the corner of 98th & California at about 1:30 pm Friday 6/10. Man dressed in black wiped down the hood of the acura and drove off in a loud, low-slung, black car, getaway car lic (starting with 563W). Police have all the info, including details of the stripped, abandoned car.

And, also in Arbor Heights, from Pat via Facebook on Saturday:

Any other victims of car prowl in Arbor Heights (Friday) night? I’m on 44th/101st, and had one of my cars cleaned out last night. Right down to the Starbucks napkins in the storage compartment in the door!

That is so great that you were able to get the plates of the getaway car from the Acura! I hope police catch them.. My civic was stolen from arbor heights, not long ago..

We had an unusual car prowl to say the least. Just SW of the Junction, someone went through the car, removed a necklace from the rear view, a tape gun from the overhead storage and piled them neatly on the passenger seat. They also apparently rifled through the glove box because a cord was hanging out that wasn’t there before.
There were some pennies in the center console and some parking change in another small compartment. None of that was missing.
As far as we could tell, nothing was missing or vandalized, only disturbed.

Alma, post the pic of you and your hubby on the bike at the local bike shops. Alki Bike and Board (Stu Hennessey), CycleU on SW Alaska just east of Alaska Junction, and at the bike store just south of Morgan Junction on SW California. Bikers notice bikes. I think I’ve seen this bike still in the area. Good luck!

I hope really bad karma catches up with people who would hit a parked car and then leave. ridiculous!

Thanks, Bill! I had called all 3 stores about the bike, but never thought of taking them a picture. Too bad it isn’t a more flattering pic if I’m going to paste it up everywhere… :-D Thanks also for mentioning that you might have seen it.
