From SDOT: This weekend’s citywide traffic-advisory list

Besides the fact the Alaskan Way Viaduct is scheduled to be closed from late Friday through early Monday – there are a variety of reasons you might encounter traffic snarls this weekend if you head eastward. SDOT is publishing Friday-Saturday-Sunday weekend advisories in advance each week, and we’re getting back to sharing them with you each week – so here’s the one that just arrived:

A number of celebrations, parades, races, and graduation ceremonies are scheduled this Friday through Sunday, June 10 -12, which could produce traffic congestion. Graduation ceremonies at Safeco Field on Friday afternoon may impact the rush hour traffic in the SODO and downtown Seattle areas. For the University of Washington Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, Seattle Police will set up traffic controls around Husky Stadium similar to those implemented on Husky game days. Motorists are urged to avoid the Montlake Bridge and take either the University Bridge or I-5 (Ship Canal Bridge).

For more details on these and other weekend events scheduled, please see below. The Seattle Department of Transportation encourages motorists headed to any of the weekend events to help reduce traffic congestion by taking one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or walk, if feasible.

Metro reroutes (if any) for these events (or construction) can be found at http://metro.kingcounty.gov/up/rr/reroutes.html

It is “Island West Seattle” for my family this weekend! :-)

TR, can we get the link to sign up for those SDOT Friday-Saturday-Sunday weekend advisories in advance each week; I tried to find, no luck; thanks

    • WSB June 9, 2011 (1:11 pm)

I don’t believe they are mailed out. We get them as news releases because we are on the media list. But they are usually posted to SDOT’s “blog-format” website like many if not most of their news releases, so you can watch for that at http://onthemove.seattle.gov – note it is the top item there right now. There’s no set time when it comes in, but if you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to the RSS feed for On The Move – TR

    thank you

This might not be the right place to ask, but does anyone know how long the lane closure on eastbound Roxbury will last? This is in the area as you head east out of White Center towards 509. (It’s not clear to me why the lane is closed; maybe some kind of cable work?)

Given the amount of traffic that goes east on Roxbury in the AM to get to 509, having only one lane the last few days has led to some big backups.

  • ddd June 9, 2011 (7:00 pm)

Thanks. I sent an email to City Light asking if they had an estimate on how long the lane would be blocked, but haven’t heard back yet.

Thanks so much for posting this info! (Even if it’s “Not in West Seattle, but we’re posting it anyway”…) I’ve referred to it several times in the last few days, trying to plan creative routes to other places in the city. A huge help!

Sorry, comment time is over.
