West Seattle Crime Watch: Woman in hospital after reported break-in

A 64-year-old Fairmount Springs woman is in the hospital today with what police describe as “serious injuries,” after an incident reported to them as a break-in. According to Seattle Police media-response unit Det. Mark Jamieson, the description is cautious because investigators are still trying to sort out what actually happened and how the victim was injured – he says they are not at all sure yet what actually took place, nor is there a description of a potential attacker, nor do they know for sure whether the attack was random or involved a stranger. He says all they do know for sure is that police were called to a home in the 5900 block of 41st SW around 4:30 am Sunday, that a woman is in the hospital with serious injuries, and that detectives are still working the case. When any additional information become available, we will add to the story.

It sounded like it must be a pretty difficult investigation … so I don’t know how soon that will be. – TR

My friend called the hospital to check up on our neighbor today. She is awake but in a lot of pain. We have heard further details of the attack but I don’t think I should put them on the blog as I am not sure how accurate this information is. One thing I do know is that this was an extremely violent attack on our dear neighbor. There are many elderly people and young children in this neighborhood. We are all feeling vulnerable and uneasy right now and would like
some more information from police. Hopefully, we will have a neighborhood meeting soon.

Bronto, thanks for not trying to add details, police were very clear during my repeat checking with them today that there is much conflicting information to sort out. There was one “rumor” somebody had e-mailed me that, off the record so I can’t say anything more, wasn’t even among the potential possible scenarios. I hope that your neighbor will recover fully and soon … TR

Yikes. 5900 block of 38th here. We’re in the young children camp and are certainly uneasy with the news, or lack thereof. Hoping and praying for a quick recovery and justice/safety.

We got a call about that but organizers said it was not for general announcement. We’ll be there, anyway. – TR

It was on Kiro 7 news last night. I guess its not that confidential anymore. Anyway it sounds like it was someone that knew the woman or knew how to get into the home, etc. not a random job because from the outside her home does not stand out, its a very small old house like many of the homes in older parts of west seattle. It does not scream money by any sense of the imagination so it was not random in my opinion. There are a lot nicer homes on that street and area to choose from if they were after high end stuff to steal.
